I'm looking for a desktop version if you have any schematics/drawings/parts lists. I'm only looking for one that you have built and verified it works.

Secret to a Tesla Coil is the "Spark Gap" where the extremely high frequency oscillations are generated.and LC resonance where the energy is transfered.

I've been messing around with HV too, and the next thing on my schedule is also a Tesla coil. I'm still reading up first, but you can find everything you need on google, hundreds of websites with plans from tesla hobbyists so you shouldn't have trouble finding info.
-If you study tesla operation in detail, you'll be able to design your own tesla coil with some calculations. Here's some info on that;

If you just want to start building and be sure it will work you can copy a Tesla coil from another tesla hobbyist, a lot of people give in depth descriptions on how to build their coils. Here is a good site;

A lot of these guys use HV caps, but theyre not easy to find and quite expensive so I'd go for the bottle capacitors, easy and simple.

You'll find lots of info on the net, but I hope this helps for a start.

I built one a very long time ago. If I could find the schematic, it probably would not be useful - It used tubes!

As I recall the circuit is a push -pull a set up. I think that gave it the high Frequency.

Then there were the primary and secondary coils. The primary had few turns and secondary had lots of turns of fine wire.

I was neat. Fluorescent tube would like up near it and the sparks were great.

Search the web and you can find some Tesla info

Good Luck!

Spark Gap? Isn't that a Jacobs ladder?

haven't built one (yet),, but there's tons of info out there on the net.
Also, do a search for Tesla Coil CAD 2.0 - a free Tesla coil design program.

I am sure you can find a book on how to build one. Not sure if people are building Tesla coils any more. I have seen museums on TV that have working ones.

could build a crude tranformerout of wood tinfoil and tranformer winding wire(It can be sold in a spool and then create a transformer that can produce a zap that knocks someone on the b u t t and hook it up to the door handle and wait for someone to open the door LOL I did that to my Tele-communication teacher for my finial graduation grade LOL I got a C I passed and I had to help paint three labs after school was out hahaha read up on that cause there is going to ba a tesla on this!!

There is no Tesla coil. It's a myth. You cannot create AC coil without a rectifier, you cannot create a rectifier without diodes. AC current is created as it is produced not through coils.

No, but glad to see someone here knows who Tesla is.

There are plenty of web sites that will walk you through it step by step. "get hold of some tesla" ? what is that supposed to mean?
