The thing about attacking their own owners is a sort of a myth even though sometimes it may be true. It all depends on how you treat them. The most aggressive dog is the Rottweiler. But if you want a true companion, nothing matches a Labrador Retriever. They'll always and I mean ALWAYS stick to you and be your true pal. They are very intelligent dogs. But the problem is, they tend to be a bit over-hyper when they are young (below 1 year age) but that gradually disappears when they grow up. The second problem is that you'll always have to be with them otherwise they become too emotional. Even though they are big dogs , they have less fur and are easy to maintain. The bottom line is : Go ahead and get you self a lab puppy pal!!!

Dobermans are great family pets...( any dog can be with training) Dobermans actually excel in obedience...they just have a bad rep (which is kind of good,,,because ignorant people are terrified of them,,thinking they are vicious,,,so the wont go near you or your family.. ) lol ..mine is great with Children, adults, Kittens, other dogs,,,anything!!!!! Just make sure you go to a good breeder and go to training and socialization classes ...Good luck!!

Min pins are not related to dobermans at all....so there is no such thing as a mini doberman..

dont go with a lab..they are way over bred and have a lot of issues,,,lol GET A DOBERMAN!!! YOU WILL love it too!!!

I think dobies can be great family dogs. All the ones I have worked with have been really sweet and good tempered. If you get it as a puppy and keep up it's training you should not have any problems. A lot of how a dog ends up depends on it's owners and training...it is up to YOU to raise a loving, gentle dog.
Do some internet research onthe breed and see if this breed is a good choice for you and talk to your vet. Good luck.

Why are you concluding that all dogs within it's breed act the same? I have 5 pit bulls. Only one is aggressive towards strangers. He's my guard dog. The other 4 are tame, happy, non-aggressive, and lounge around the house with my cats. So can you pet a doberman? Depends, ask it's owner.

OMG!!! Please...go get your Dobie!! If you get her as a pup, and raise her with your family from the jump go, you will not only never be attacked by her, but you and you children will have a life long companion and friend!! They are very protective of their families. That being you and yours! I have had a Dobie my whole life, and the worst thing they really do is when your kids, or you, are running or playing in the yard, they will chase after you and nip at your during play, hence, their "pincher" name. Beware if you are the mail man or UPS driver. Their don't-mess-wit-my-family bark can scare the bageezies outta people, but if you train them to stop when you command then to, they will listen. If you are dedicated and spend time with her, then you will not have a problem with agression. But I highly recommend getting her as a pup. Then she can grow up with you and your family and learn the rules as you want her to learn them, in comparison to getting an older Doberman. I love mine! Her name is Xena, and she is awesome! You will never regret your decision. I promise!

I love dobermans and they make wonderful pets, but you really need to get one from a reliable source! If you already have a potential for mistrust I might be inclined to recomend another breed... maybe a short coat collie or a greyhound both amazing & loyal!

In my experience they are wonderful dogs. They respond very well to training and are very obedient. Actually they are now being used as guide dogs for the blind and elderly. They are very gentle and good with children.

If you train them properly you won't have any problems. There are people out there who train dogs to be fierce, that is how they get a bad name.

Dobies are very sweet, shy dogs. They are usually very good with their families, but wary of strangers. Unlike a previous answer, I would not recommend the min-pin or other varieties. I work in a vet hosp and can tell you from experience they are far worse tempermant than the large ones.

Dobermans are the best. they have a great temperment and are VERY prtective. The only bad dobies are the ones who were brought up to be bad. 99% of them are the sweetest things you can imagine

If you want a Doberman then get a mini one. I wouldn't suggest getting the larger ones.
