For those who are atheist, although there is no rock solid proof of a god, what would you have to lose by believing in one? Would it hurt you spiritually to believe in one, or is there some reason that you just dont. And for the record I have nothing against atheists, in fact many of my friends are atheist...

Let me ask you something...

Can you just not believe in deities? Probably not...

The same is true for Atheists. Without proof, simply believing in dieities makes no sense.

They can't just simply "believe", anymore than someone who believes can simply "not believe".

In addition to this, we'd be sacrificing any honesty we have with ourselves if we believed something we don't really feel exists.

Kind of lying to oneself, isn't it?

Most believers I have spoken to say that they have a "feeling" about believing in God. I don't know what that means. I don't have this "feeling", and I have no idea what it feels like. From what I know about neurology, this feeling is most likely a response to an unconscious internal brain function. Some people have it and some don't. I don't believe in any sort of spiritual existence.

I don't believe in God because the idea doesn't make any sense. I don't have the capacity for this kind of belief even if I wanted to believe. I don't follow everything the Bible teaches because most of it is contradictory and open to interpretation. Some things in the Bible make sense, others don't. Those that do make sense usually coincide with common sense or secular humanist ideas. It doesn't help Christianity's cause that so many of those people who call themselves Christians are either bigots or just plain hateful. You guys who are moderate Christians or liberal Christians really should tell them to shut up.

What I would lose by believing is apparently my skepticism. Christians seem more likely to believe what people tell them if they are charismatic enough or have the right personality.

Here are a few cogent reasons:

1. Belief in God would effectively absolve me of responsibility for running my own life and would encourage me to blame supernatural forces for things that can be explained as natural phenomena.

2. There are spiritual paths that can help center my existence and free myself from anxiety that do not involve pretending to believe in God.

3. Belief in God makes one intellectually lazy by simply filling the gaps with divine intervention instead of encouraging me to become curious about causes and consequences.

4. In order to have knowledge of God, it requires me to lean on traditions and communities that I believe are causing harm in the world and in many cases threatening human rights.

You can't make yourself believe in something, you either do or you don't. It would hurt my integrity, because if I said I believed I would be lying. I don't understand why people think you can just believe. If you are Christian could you just believe that Jesus wasn't the son of God or the reverse if you aren't?

Yes, why not think of some kind of God?, whatever shape you want to give to it. You can think of it as external forces, or a genie, or an alien, I don't know. You don't need to "accept" the religion's God. You are free to believe in a different God.
