see my previous ? regarding abortion.regardless of your political, religious, moral or ethical background is preventing conception just as "bad" as abortion? (please note the quotations i am not placing blame or otherwise, i want as many view points as possible)....many believe (and just not Christians') that sex is for the sole purpose of multiplying. Sexual Pleasure is a subnote. what do you think? is preventing the conception of a child like playing God? on the other hand if contrceptives were non existant what would our population be...10 maybe 20 Billion....answer honestly. this is a serious question.

First of all, I am a Christian, but I don't believe that sex is for the sole purpose of multiplying. God gave us the desire! Otherwise, how many children would there actually be in this world? Believe it or not, it is a woman's "Christian duty" to have sex with her husband. There is only supposed to be abstinence if both parties agree to be celibate for a time. As to prevention, I don't believe that prevention is abortion, providing an egg has not been fertililzed, I believe that once the egg has been fertilized that is the beginning of life, and I could not consciously do anything to end it.
As to religious views, Catholics do not believe in contraception, so that means they have to use the rhythm method. Which really is no method at all. I am not insulting any religion here, just stating the facts. And also, in the Bible, God killed a man for spilling his seed on the ground, so men be careful when using the withdrawal method! Sorry, I seem to be rattling on. But I don't have a way with words like some. I'll probably read an answer and think,
"that's what I meant to say."

Let me tell you a little story. I've been pregnant 3 times. The first time my fiance wore a condom. The second time I was on the birth control patch. The third time I was on the Nuva Ring. I miscarried my first child but gave birth to my other 2. There's a BIG difference between contraceptives and abortions. I gave birth to 2 of my children. I lost the first one because of fourwheeler accident before I even knew I was pregnant. I personally believe that if God wants someone to have a child then they will. Contraceptives aren't like "playing" God because of this: God will give anyone a child if he wants to. Obviously my 2 daughters were meant to be here. My youngest daughter is also my miracle baby. I nearly lost her twice while I was pregnant and then once again when I was in labor. Doesn't it seem like God planned for me to give birth to her all along?

I understand what you are saying but if you are a religious person, think of it this way...God allowed man to create birth control. He gave us the chemicals and the knowledge to create these things yet left it upp to us to decide how to use it. I personally don't think it's a form of abortion because abortion is taking something that is already created. It can't be because you aren't even pregnant yet when you take B.C. As far as playing God...I don't think so. With every type of contraceptive out there, there is a failure rate. Whether it is 1% or .03%. Those are the people that were meant to have children at that exact time in thier life. You understand what I'm saying?

Is abortion a form of contraception?
seriously, I don't know a woman who has had an abortion who isn't messed up by it. but the reasons vary tremendously and I don't think any government should be able to ban abortions on moral or ethical grounds (neither should society)
the crime rate dropped in the late 1980's due to the fact unwanted children didn't arrive and has risen since abortion has become a 'social problem' which 'good christian hypocrites' have demonstrated about ( and killed abortion doctors, so much for 'religion') and the next two post prove my point about hypocrites.
if you really believe in some sort of GOD its his will that allows these things to happen , not your twisted view of life

Consider this:

For every sperm and egg that pair up, MILLIONS of sperm and hundreds of eggs do not. This is without any interference from pills, contraceptive devices, or other means.

If this is not a moral tragedy, that millions of potential humans are not being created... then how can we scream about the one or two that might happen if the condom breaks or someone forgot a pill?

So, no. Apples and oranges. Two entirely different issues.

I won't go into the abortion question. It's too volatile and frankly I don't have much faith in everyone being able to remain civil about it.

Is contraception a form of abortion? No. Is it just a bad? Well yea. But that doesn't mean that sex is only for pro-creation either.

Natural Family Planning is very effective and the only really safe way to share the bonding aspects of sex without the procreative aspects. It allows the body to cycle in the way it was intended with out interference from chemicals, hormone or foreign materials.

Once the body is allowed to function the way it was built to, and you plan your family around that, many woman find a heightened sense of sexuality. I don't know if that is brought about by the lack of interference or the deepened sense of bodily awareness that is used in this method, but either way I think it is definitely the body's way of saying that this is the way things are meant to be.

I believe that contraception and abortion are two completely different things, one being mostly positive and the other mostly negative. It's necessary that we have contraception because like it or not, people do have sex for pleasure whether it's to have babies or not, and that's just human nature. If everybody on earth continually had sex throughout their whole lives without using birth control, think how horribly high our population would be. How would we ever have enough food and shelter and resources for all those people? Those of us who choose to have control over our reproduction aren't trying to play god, we're in control of our own lives and have the freedom to choose when we have children. There should be no blame in that.

No, it is not a form of abortion. How much care could you possibly have for ALL the children you might end up having, if you DON'T use contraceptives?? A whole bunch of kids that don't get the proper attention, enough food or clothes or toys CUZ THERE WOULD BE MORE KIDS THAN YOU COULD AFFORD! It is far better, FOR THE CHILD, to have ONE child you can afford, rather than a bunch of kids that suffer because of YOUR beliefs. Stop thinking of yourself and do the world a favor (help to control the population)

Absolutely not. If condoms and birth control pills are a form of abortion, then technically any woman who refuses to have sex with me is also comitting abortion. That means the last girl I dated was a murderer!!!

Abortion means to abort a fetus. Contraception means to prevent a fetus from forming in the first place. HUGE difference.

NO!. Abortion rids the body of a feotus, whereas contraception prevents a feotus in the first place. And yes realistically if everytime a women had sex it was to fall pregnant the world would be entirely overpopulated. So thank god for contraception i say.
