The think is my friend got his jaw broken in a fight and he got his jaw wired shut. He can still open his mouth enough to eat, but not solid foods. My friends and I are trying to think up things for him to eat for the next 5 weeks. So far we thought of tomato soup, chicken broth, beef broth and Ensure Drinks. Does anybody else have any other ideas? And if possible, a link to a store where he can buy these things. Thank you so much.

you can stick pretty much anything in a blender and puree it - how good it tastes?? that's another story.. The ensure is a good thing to give him once or twice a day as it has nutrition that he's most likely lacking from being restriction to soups and broths (which are basically water). is he able to eat anything with a pudding like consistency? you can try various puddings or ice cream in that case - not nutritious, but still tastes better than soup.

and I'm really not kidding about the blender thing. You can make fruit smoothies or milkshakes - being sure that it's not to thick or chunky, and can even puree vegetables if you wanted.

The best investment you friend could make is a blender. Truthfully you can puree most anything, just a matter of whether he will actually eat it.

Ensure is a must, needs all the vitamins and minerals in it for his health. You might also look into other high calorie food replacements, he can puree most fruit and veggies and oddly enough, they taste ok. Yogurts, puddings, and take a stroll thru the baby food aisle.

The trick to blending things is to make sure its smooth...NO LUMPS!!! Lumps bad...very bad. Use fruit juices and water to puree foods and strain it thru a sieve before he tries to drink it.

I cooked in an extreme care nursing home for a long time and most of the patients were on a pureed food diet. It's not pretty but he can make it thru this ok with some creative thinking!

hope he gets better soon!

Campbells Chicken & Stars is really good, just take the carrots and meat out. It will give him some solids without him having to chew. Those "cream of broccoli, chicken, mushroom and whatever else they come in would be good too! You can get these at pretty much any grocery store! Oh and you could make fruit smoothies for him too!

Full Liquid Diet

Purpose
The full liquid diet is often used as a step between a clear liquid diet and a regular diet, for example, after surgery or fasting. It may also be used after certain procedures, such as jaw wiring. This diet may also be appropriate for patients who have swallowing and chewing problems.

Nutrition Facts
The full liquid diet is low in iron, vitamin B12, vitamin A, and thiamine. It should not be used for a long period of time unless vitamins, iron, or liquid nutritional supplements are added. This diet has 1800 mg of calcium, so extra calcium is not needed.

If he can get ahold of a juicer, that'd be good.
For example (it doesn't taste bad) carrots, spinach, Kale (superfood), celery, cabbage and beet.

Liquid vitamins. Slim Fast and/or Boost. Ovaltine.

[He needs to keep in mind calories]
