the churches have always helped those who are in crisis ie suffering from drug abuse, alcoholism, violent behaviour etc............but are they truely helping people with addictive personalities by making them addicted to a book that we cant even prove is true??????? isnt this just trading one addiction for another????

Love this question! LOVE IT!

I think you're right... one uncontrolled addiction for another. At least we can prove alcoholism is real.

The word addiction carries with it the connotation of negative behavior, which is why we hear it used in relation to drugs, alcohol, gambling and even some sexual behaviors.

Every recovery program is built upon the premise that a power "higher than ourselves" is required to abstain from addictive behavior.

From that point of view, it is not possible to become addicted to the Bible, as the Bible itself does not promote negative or destructive behavior.

I do caution people recovering from addiction to get invovled with a program and not just rely on church... the reason being, not all churches are equipped to help recovering addicts through their day to day struggles. The anonimity provided by recovery programs also helps with spiritual development.

Where do you get your facts that the Bible isn't real?
Ask any theologan about the factual accounts of history recorded in the Bible and they will tell you that the events did occur.
So, what has your panties in a bunch?
We are not force fed the Bible, a true follower of God's word will want to read and study it so they can know more about Him and our past.
As for it being an addiction, I hardly think a book is dangerous as a drug or an addiction that causes one to do harm to others or themselves.

Everything you described is a sin problem, and the bible gives the solution for sin. It can't be described as an addiction scientifically, so if you want to look at it as a crutch, then whatever. But we have sinned, and as sinners, we are making our world continually worse and will go to hell when we die. The bible tells this frightening truth, but offers hope through God's mercy in sending His Son, Jesus, to pay the penalty for our sin.

You have your mind made up about Christianity so why do you feel the need to bother with it?
