To remove lice, you can purchase a product otc at your drugstore such as quell, nix, pronto, etc. You can also buy a special comb and some products even include this comb. Be sure to also clean all the bedding and towels in hot water and vacuum any padded furniture as well every day until the infestation is cured. LIce can live for a day or so and their eggs can survive up to a week when OFF the human host so cleaning properly helps contain the possibility of re-investation or spreading hte lice to others.

As for the comb, you can buy special de-lousing combs. Follow the directions exactly. You also need to clean the comb frequently during the combing process. This process takes several hours a night and must be repeated every day until no more active lice are seen (will take several days, possibly a week). You comb one small section at a time.

Every day, be sure to clean all your combs and brushes to dispose of any lice or nits.

When my kids come home with lice, I saturate their head with olive oil and place a plastic baggie over their hair. After about 2 or 3 hours (time spent cleaning and bagging everything), I comb out their hair with the Rid combs, wiping oil and bugs onto a paper towel. Then I re-saturate their hair, cover it with a new baggie, (because I throw the paper towels with the oil and bugs in the old baggie, tied, in the trash) and wait another hour or so. Again, I start combing with the Rid combs, wiping on new paper towels, then I wash it with a clarifying shampoo, at least 2 or 3 times. I check their heads daily and repeat the above process in about three days. And keep checking their heads daily for about 3 weeks to a month. Lice can hold their breath for up to 24 hours (like when smothered with mayo or oil). They are very resistant to the pesticides and chemicals found in Rid and Nix. Nits (which are the eggs) hatch in about 3 days, that's why I repeat the oil process. The original recipe said to do it every 3 days for 21 days, but my kids won't sit for that. The olive oil treatment has worked for me for about 3 years now. Good luck, they are hard to get rid of, but can be done. Just clean with super, super, super hot water. I have had great success with this treatment plan. Give it a try. Good luck.

When you have an outbreak of lice... you have to treat the whole house as well as the heads of the folks living in the house. You must launder the bed linens, the curtains, etc... Any stuffed animals need to be placed into a plastic bag and sealed up for about two days. All linens and clothing and such need washed in HOT water and Dried on HIGH settings. Carpet needs cleaned and vacuumed too. Don't forget to treat the furniture as well. Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum!!!

There are some non-chemical treatment options... such as olive oil or mayonnaise on the heads overnight.. sounds like you may have tried these. As and FYI... for some unknown reason... I have heard that the lice don't like Suave Coconut shampoo/conditioner. Something about that coconut scent wards them off.

There are some helpful websites you can use for other information. I work in social services and have to train families and childcare workers on the treatment of lice.

you need to check who they have contact with because they could be getting re infected - could even be you that is giving them lice. it can take up to 14 days for you to feel itching from lice.
It they have a friend they may have it. known fact is lice can not live more than 24 hours without being on a human host - within that 24 hours they can live in carpets bedding etc... keep in mind that lice can not jump or hop they have to be in direct contact with a human to get infected - using rid and other products have to be used a few times (follow directions) because adult lice can lay 6 eggs each a day on a human you have to retreat the head after then hatch but before they turn adult to get rid of all lice. many eggs will not come out during washing they have to hatch.

Keep picking, Keep picking, a week is about average to get them mostly gone.

You know what helps and is cheap?

Dawn, wash the hair each night with a few drops of Dawn in between treating with Rid or Nix.

Vinegar, soak on head mixed half and half with water for 10 minutes and it will loosen nits for easier picking.

Home Defender bug spray, spray on carpert and couch to kill bugs there and then vacuum them.

Good luck, I too am at the end stage. This is my 3rd time this year with my two grandkids I have custody of.

We have had the same battle here...my doctor told me to use mayonaise (the cheap ol mayo, not miracle whip)... Act as if you are putting conditioner in the hair, put on a shower cap and sleep in it over night... Along with that make sure to wash bedding, pillowcases, stuffed animals, blankets etc in HOT water and throughly dry on high heat... We did that and it worked... Hope this helps..

you are just not doing a good job of cleaning the rest of the house.bedding rugs and especially Stuffed animals. All sprayable surfaces must be Sprayed.you may also be allowing them to re-infest from the person they got it from in the first place.and don't forget to vaccum EVERYTHING and then throw the bag out!

HI FIRST of all you don't get lice from being dirty. My daughter went through hell with that for years now she's 18 and it is gone. It is enbedded in your carpet. If your kid plays with barbie dolls get rid of them they get in the hair. They get it from schools that have carpet in them. They get it from neighbors that have 3 or more children. It multiplies like nothing in this world. When I lived in Alabama it was terrible. For my advice move out of that old house you are living in or get rid of the carpet. Don't use cold water in your washing machine only hot water kills them. they get in your bedding and carpet. To get rid of lice you have to get rid of everything serious proof here. My daughter was tormented with it. They get in your vacuum cleaner. If you need any advice email me.
