there are 2 possibilities here, 1) the kennel did not feed and take care of him properly, or 2) he was stressed out from being in an unfamiliar situation and wouldn't eat. when i went on vacation for 10 days a few years ago i hired an in home pet sitter and my 18 lb dog lost 5 pounds. ever since I've left her with my parents when i go away, but even then she wont eat unless they sit there and hand feed her.

Talk to the people you boarded him with. Ask them if your dog had trouble eating. He may have been really scared there. Lonely, maybe. The people who board dogs are supposed to walk them two or three times a day, feed them on the feeding schedule *you* give them, and feed them the food you tell them to feed him. They are also supposed to play with them a bit. Ask the people who you boarded him with exactly what was included with boarding.

He should not have lost that much weight. The only reasonable explanation to this would be him being scared and nervous, so he wasn't eating. If that is NOT the case, I'd look more into legal issues if I were you. Unless you can get your dog to a better weight quick. It's very unhealthy for a dog to be that underweight.

Good luck.

I have a boxer and when we went on a cruise for 7 days we placed him in a kennel. I think it was a huge mistake. When we went to pick him up he was depressed and as crazy as it sounds, he didn't talk to us for 2 whole days. If you have a boxer I am sure you are familiar with their "talking" that everyone else thinks is a growl. Well, h wouldn't even look at us much less talk to us. Plus he had diarhea for like 3 days. Your dog might've been depressed and not eaten when he thought you had left him. He may have had diarhea while he was there? All you can do is love on him and make sure he eats. He probably just needs some TLC.

I work at a bording kennel, and dogs often refuse to eat when they come..we allow the dogs to play all day indoors, with each other, so after a couple of days, they will usually eat ok..but if they had been kept in kennels, alone, they wouldn't eat at all....
don't feed any extra, just the normal amount if good quality kibble..He will pick the weight back up in no time...much of the loss is likely from not drinking, and that comes right back...

Sometimes when a dog is boreded at a kennel they are too nervous to even eat. And he can loose weight during the stay, But the kennel should of told you he didnt eat. More than likely you should ask them. Was it a reputable kennel. Only other thing would be sick. Has he thrown up any? If not then feed him cooked but cooled chicken and see how fast he eats. If he eats fast then yes he may of not eaten. If he does not eat then he may be sick and should see a vet.

Your dog was probably too stressed out to eat properly. Maybe next time you can have a friend sit for your dog in your home. Far less stressful and you won't come home to a skinny dog.

He probably didn't eat as much there. I know that every time I take my dog to board he refuses to eat b/c he's so nervous being there. Try increasing the food until he puts on more weight or go to a vet!

I agree with most of the answers you received. Dogs can get stressed out when we leave them in a strange place with people they don't know. I recall once when I left our
Pom at a boarding kennel and he had this "look" that said why are you leaving me ?

I would call the kennel and ask them if he ate anything, i they said that he did then get him examend by a vet. If the vet finds nothing wrong do some serious investigate of the kennel, ask around see if anyone else noticed the same thing who was also boarded there.

it probably gave him alot of anxiety being left in a strange place with strange people. He probably didn't eat much since he was most likely depressed - I'm sure he will be fine now that you are home but keep an eye on him and make sure he eats, pees, and poops - if not, make an appointment w/ the vet.
