Wow, that is an unusual phobia, isn't it? I've never heard of it. Maybe instead of trying to figure it all out and overcome it, it'd be easier to simply avoid docked boats and scuba gear. Is this a regular part of your lives that she has to encounter out of water boats and scuba suits? Do you own waterfront property and socialize with boaters and divers? If so, I'd suggest professional help. If it's only when she happens to come upon these things in an out of the ordinary way, then just avoid it and don't stress about it. Phobias are rather common to the general public. My partner has a tremendous phobic fear of large bodies of water--lakes, wide rivers, etc. but it's of little concern since he lives in the middle of a very large desert!

yes, people can be afraid of everything Ask your wife to watch at the pictures of boats first in safety of your home. She should learn some anti stress techniques and apply them when she feels the panic. Let her watch at pictures until she is completely fine. Next, take her to shop where they sell boats as someone has suggested. She may just look at the boats first and than, when she feels ready, she may touch them. Finally, go somewhere where you can see boats sailing (a river or a sea) and she may look at them while standing on firm ground. Notice that none of them sinks. She should do relaxation exercises if she feels nervous and breathe deeply. when she feels ready, she should get on the boat while it is still near the shore so that she can get out of it when she is scared. Practice until she is able to stay on the boat for a long time. Finally, she should be ready for a nice trip by boat! It may also help to learn how boats work from physical point of view and talk with boat crew. Remember, proceed to the next step when she is able to do previous without problems!!!!

What i would do is take her to a place like "Outdoor World" and force her inside the boat section and make her touch the boats. That should do it! If that doesn't work, then I would chase her around the house with a toy bass boat and let my kids scare her with the toy boat. You need to scare her straight. It would be very bad if she fell off a boat and scuba guys had to come and rescue her, she would probably kill the scuba guy. Hi Josie!!

Many people have phobias. I myself have a big one that I do not like to talk about! She should see someone who can help her. A psychiatrist, or psychologist should be able to help her or refer her to someone who can. Good Luck!
