Which country would win a war?

Canadians wouldn't bother starting one. Why would we? We have everything we need. We've got the natual resources to last a VERY long time. Nobody picks on us and we're generally well respected in the world community without needing weapons to back it up. On the other hand, should the US ever try to start one,( very doubtful even when they run out of oil), their military knows it would be tough slugging. The defender always has the advantage. RSantos 19 posted that we have a poorly trained armed forces and old equipment. True, our equipment is old, but it's fairly reliable and we know how to use it well. We are also getting new stuff all the time. I do have issue with his statement about training. The American Rangers are equivalent to our regular forces fellas. Sorry, but our guys do have the superior training in that regard as all of our guys are trained to the Ranger standard. We also train in harsher conditions, most not armour friendly. American snipers actually go on course here in Canada, as does the Us air force at our Goose Bay weapons training facility and at Cold Lake. This environment is our back yard, your fellas are here to learn. We're the professors. It'd be a dirty fight, we wouldn't fight fair and one thing we have in our history would goad us on. Never, not once has a Canadian Regiment, in any conflict, from 1812 to the present day retreated in battle. It's true, look it up.
anyway
Cheers :)

Actually the Canadian military is very highly trained. We put a lot of resources into developing the troops, just not into the equipment. As for who would win a war it is a tough call, Canada is still a recognized part of the commonwealth so they could technically drag a punch of allies into it. Canada is also a very sparse and large country, from a tactical perspective this creates huge problems.

Canada has already won a war against the US. 1812! And besides does it really matter who wins or loses the US will just claim victory anyhow.

define "win"?

doubtful the USA could ever defeat Canada in a conventional ground war, as resistance (sorry, "Insurgancy" as US media-speak would have it) would be high and Cdns, generally fairly indistinguishable from Americans (not to mention the massive Cdn 5th column that has already infiltrated the US).. As we're seeing in Iraq - the US is pretty much USELESS in ground war insurgency, and that's with a readily-identifiable enemy..

in any event, to defeat our spirit - the US would need nuke us - whch would mean polluting their own fresh water supply and alienting them from the world community.. so ultimatly the US would LOSE.

But for a little truth is stranger than fiction....Google "War Plan Red" for details on the US plans to invade Canada as recently as the 1930's.

Both countries could win a war, dependiing on who the opponent is. Canada could beat Greenland and the US could beat anyone else.

Canada already won a war against the USA... interestingly enough most American history books have seemed to skip this part of history..

To Dno: That's funny considering most of the Canadians I know have laughs about the Canadian military being grossly underfunded, inordinately small for a country of that size and stature, and poorly equipped and trained by comparison to other commonwealth nations.

As for training, a country (the US) doesn't spend $500+ billion on military expenditures resulting in poorly trained military forces. So shut your hole.

There would never be a war between the two. Countries with Mc Donalds don't goto war with each other.
