I am 18 years old/male. I have somewhat lost the need to eat. It's not that I am an anarexic, I just have no desire to eat anything most of the day. When I am hungry I eat. I don't binge on anything. I just don't eat a lot of food anymore. I am also putting weight back on. Can somebody please explain what is happening to me and how to fix it? Yes I plan on talking to my doctor about it but I am curious now.

would you say you have a 'loss of appetite' or is it more mental - that you despise food or are self-concious about the amount you eat? This will make a big difference when you talk to your doctor, as 'loss of appetite' can actually be a symptom of something else (diabetes to name one)...the other is more psychological and would be looked at and treated differently. I really can't tell you what it is, as there are many possible causes...for now, try eating the foods you like - even if you aren't getting much variety in your diet that way, at least you'll have adequate intake. Surely there's one or two things you enjoy eating or crave? go for those. Also think about taking a multi-vitamin or even drinking a nutritional drink such as Ensure that can give you the nutrition you're missing. And definitely go talk to your doctor as soon as possible!

I learned the hard way that your body goes into a starvation mode when you do not eat much. Then when you do eat something, you will gain weight even though you do not eat that many calories. Your body does not know when you will eat again, so it stores all food that you eat. This is referred to as "starvation mode". You will have a slow metabolism all your life. Start eating on a regular basis even if you only graze. I make it a practice to NEVER eat less than 1200 calories a day. The average person eats 1500 calories a day.

Hello
Gizmo5852000

All I gather from your info is that you have had some mishap in your family/or not done well in your exam / job / lost girl friend .
This type of situations brings people under certain stress and pressure and the organs of the body get stressed and fail to function at their optimum efficiency.Do get your blood test of T3, T4 ,TSH done to check if you are having THYROID problem that is when you put on weight without eating and don't feel hungry too
and a slight sound like a telephone bell disturbs / irritates you.
yes you should see your doc without fail especially if you are over weight for your age and height by 10 to 30 pounds. If you are putting on weight then you will come under the category of Hypothyroid.

When you skip meals or don't eat for a long, certain period of time, you lose an excessive amount of weight. However, it will all come back on in a heartbeat if you start eating again. I know this because my swim coach is a bootcamp counselor and a personal trainer.

When you don't eat, your metabolism lowers because your body starts eating it's stored nutrients, while saving it's stored fat. So when you start eating again, it is strange because your weight will probably be more than it was originally.

I hope that made sense, lol. Good luck!

ok here i go,

I suggest you start eating regularly like at LEAST three meals a day. If you don't and you continue to not eat you will be in pain when you are forced to eat. TRUST ME I KNOW. I was sick for two weeks because I had stopped eating.

secondly, does depression run in your family and do you have it?

also, you gaining can be a cause of you not eating which anything that does go in your motuh will be stored as fat because your stored fat is already burning off. it can also WHICH I HIGHLY DOUBT, but be your thyroid as well depending on how your weight is.

but you need to talk to a doctor immediately before you body gets damaged.

I wouldn't even want to speculate as to what is wrong, there are so many possibilities. You have the right idea, get to the doctor, and soon. You need to make sure there are no medical issues you need to deal with first.

Good luck to you.
