I discovered Edward Hopper by accident. I love his work. And yes, I think he is underrated. He probably hasn't been appreciated in the mainstream because his work is not warm and fuzzy. In some ways, the psychological feeling is more akin to today's society.

I don't think he's really underrated. Several of his paintings are more recognizable to the world in general than Picasso or many of the modern masters.

There are artists from Hopper's generation who really are underrated, like Benton and Fenninger and Marin who deserve more recognition.
