I would say it depends. If you did it out of a real desire to good. Such as a war to end oppression then yes. If you did it out of greed like Mussolini and Hitler I would say no. Just because you do something in the name of religion does not make it right or really about religion. I could say I robbed a bank in the name of religion but then again it most likely would be about money, just like most wars are about power. Now not all wars are wrong and not all wars are right. That is where we all have to decide what we believe in and feel about the issues.

I will remind everyone that Mussolini and Hitler WERE "good Christians", and let's not forget the hundreds of medieval wars caused by competing states that were all blessed by the church; not to mention the ones the church ordered to destroy other sects;

The Jewish massacares of the Cannanites; and every other bit of middle-eastern infighting since; being it Jewish vs. Christian or three-way Jewish, Christian, Muslim showdowns during the crusades; or the zionist movement's thirst for territory in the name of Yaweh and the Christian Right's support of them simply to bring about their precious "second comming".

Mind you, maybe 50% of wars can be directly placed at the feet of religion; another 35% on top of that used religion as cover, and the last 15% co-opted religious indocrination principles to further their own ends and brainwash their troops.

And forgiveness? Did I ever say I wanted anyone to fight for me; let alone in the name of something I won't believe in? Calm down guys; relax and don't go around spreading grief; the fates give us enough of that without adding to it intentionally. Being able to forgive mistakes is desireable; but pure malice is unconscienable.

religion has never caused a war that I have ever studied.

only greed, power and money on the part of the rulers that start the war.

religion is just an excuse to get the masses to follow along blindly

Not just wars. Religion divides and causes conflict. It has been the leading cause of war/killings of any kind through history.

Almost every war has some basis on religion. John has no idea what he is talking about.

Human sinfulness causes wars.

Atheists have killed 70 - 100 million people in just the 20th century.

Cordially,
John

To your point, taking God's name in vain is a sin. Modern warfare was not mandated by God yet people use His name in vain to promote their war. This is sin and against God.

If you repent and ask for forgiveness, God would redeem you, though.

wars are fought over greed, and many religions are quite greedy, but religions are not what lead people into war - greed is what leads people into war - they can they use whatever excuse they want to justify their greed.
