DC:Damage Controlman.

Is this the best rate to become a firefighter?

I noticed that the Coast Guard has this rate too, but i heard the Navy has the best firefighters but i'm not sure what rate is it.

Like the others said, DC is the rate to get into. Basically, all sailors are trained in basic firefighting. However, for those who require to fight larger scale fires, check fire mains, control flooding, lead firefighting and fire inspecting teams on ship, must be in the DC rating. I think that the A School for that is in NTC Great Lakes.

As to your old question, Barracks up there are modest. You will have a roomate, or two. You have an actual bathroom with shower, so there is privacy. You are allowed to have a computer in your room. You will have to buy one first. If not, there is usually someone down the hall who has one, so make friends. Also there is a little internet room at the rec center.

That is about all I know. If you went into an aviation rating, I would have better info about Pensacola. hope this helps.

Most engineering rates do alot of firefighting work, plus everyone in the navy is taught basic firefighting skills. But Damage Controlmen focus on firefighting and associated equipment more then any other rate.

You asked this before.. and again, I say.. if you want to be a traditional firefighter, the Navy is not the way to do it. Only the AF has a comperable equivalent.

DCs do a lot more than fight fires.. they repair hull breaches and stop leaks.
