The idea of religion is to live life as best as possible. It's selfish and corrupt people who use it to start trouble in the world. Religion passes on a set of values and history that would otherwise be forgotten. I wish everyone were told this because people blame religion for everything. The one's doing all the harm are people. And as for Amy, I don't know which world war was started by religion, the one's i know about was started by the Germans. I'm not a person who's going to tell you that you'll burn in hell or anything, you're free to believe whatever you want. But i think we can agree on two things: 1. We are very small in a very huge universe, which one can believe was created by a 'Higher power'. 2. We should be the best people we can be for our sake and for others.
Well then, Good day.

While I am not a very religious person, I do believe in God and I think I have a close relationship with God...
A few reasons why religion DOES have a point:
- People need to be taught right from wrong. Religion does this.
- People need answers to existential questions that we cannot answer with science or logic. Right or wrong, religion does provide answers. (Everyone-- religious or not-- wonders where we are, why we're on Earth, etc., etc.)
- People need to be accepted by a cultural community. For many, religion provides a community of people with like-minded backgrounds and beliefs.
- Religion is humbling. We're not the most amazing thing in the universe... there's actually something greater than human beings. Religion keeps people's egos from getting too big.
- Most people cannot confide in others with complete, 100% honesty and sincerity. They can, ohwever, confide in a god through prayer. Religion gives people a way of communicating with absolute honesty and clear self-reflection. (Most people would not trust anybody on Earth with all of their life secrets. But, it comforts people to know there is a god who knows and sees and experiences their life fairly.)
- Religion brings us fun holidays. Like Christmas and Easter and Hanukkah. Most major holidays are culturally rooted in religion. I don't know about you, but I like holidays. Yes, I know there are secular holidays too, but you see my point....
- Many people would not feel comfortable believing that the world was created at random and that people were placed here for no apparent reason. This is a scary thought. Religion guides people away from this thought.
Personally, I am an agnostic. I don't know what to believe. But I think an wonder and dream. I talk to God. I hope He's there, but I don't have the answers.

Religion itself is never a bad thing - having faith in a higher power, and believing that people should treat each other morally.
HOWEVER
Zealots are the problem - people who use their holy texts as an excuse for despicable actions. These people, however, do not make up the vast majority of religious followers - it's just that the vocal minority always gets the most attention.

Religion is definitely over-rated! Most of the religion community, especially those of Christianity, tell you how great it is to be relieved of your worries by A god. It irritates me so much to listen to or hear someone talking/speaking about religion. It's just something that people use to 'get away' or in other words: to lie to themselves to make them happy. Only people that can't or refuse to think for themselves do the religion thing deeply.

You dont need to follow a religion to follow God and His Word. God does not require anyone to follow a religion, just Him

Definitely not. I don't see the point in organized religion...I'd rather have my own beliefs independent of others'.

religion is instictively inbedded in human subconcious I think, the need to worship or at least recognize a greater power. Why else would every culture and civilization in history have had one, (or many)?

Religion will not get you to God's kingdom. Religious people are far from ever being perfect and like God. Love God, live a Christ like life [meaning do good and live positive] and have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are negatives and positives. Negatives like starting wars and stuff. Possitives likes giving people a warm squishy feeling inside.
