Part 1: Running: it's cheap, accessible, and you get quick results. No membership to the gym required, and all you need are a pair of running shoes, shorts, and a shirt. If you run around your neighborhood for 45 minutes to an hour for 5 or 6 days a week, you'll lose abdominal fat, your thighs will shrink and become muscular, you'll look leaner, you'll sleep better, and you'll be able to do other fun physical activities like hiking more easily.
Part 2: Strength training. Again, easy, accessible, cheap. No membership to the gym required. You can lift weights right in your own home. For example, take a dictionary to start, balance it on your hands while laying down, and lift up and down. Ta-da, strength training for the arms. Or, buy a set of weights from a sports store; they're relatively inexpensive.
Part 3: Cut back on the junk food and replace it with fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy products, lean meats, whole grains, etc. Your diet doesn't have to be so strict that you end up binging on the bad stuff. Just make substitutions. Instead of ice cream, eat frozen yogurt. For your chips substitute, eat fat-free Pringles. Make sure you get enough of the good calories, and don't skip any of the food groups! (that means no low-carb diets) Any mineral or vitamin deficiency in your diet will compromise your energy stores and your overall health. Get involved in your cooking, so you know exactly what's going into your mouth. Look up healthy recipes on the internet. You'll find that a lot of these healthier foods taste much better than you thought they would. (Plus, you're spending the same amount of money on food; you're just buying different stuff.)
Part 4: Reward yourself every now and then. It's fine to live a little. Just make sure you're only rewarding yourself once or twice a week.
Part 5: Stay active even on your recovery days. Take a hike with friends in the mountains. Go for a leisurely swim. Bike with a significant other. Pick up a sport hobby, like tennis.
Part 6: Keep at it and have patience. You didn't gain the weight overnight, so you're not going to lose it overnight. Don't expect to lose more than 2 pounds per week. Doctors and dietitians recommend this amount; anything else is considered to be unhealthy. The combination of eating right and exercising regularly WORKS. You'll become leaner and you'll stay that way if you continue to eat right and exercise daily.

That sounds really good. But try to run only 3 - 4 times per week, here's why. Your body needs at least 24 hours to restore the muscle glucose that repairs muscles. If it is continually depleted day after day you will set yourself up for injuries that will make all of the hard work go down the drain. You will get better results faster actually if you allow your body the required time to rest.
Your absolutely right about the combination of eating right and exercising. I've been doing just that to lose weight from my pregnancy. Another perk is that if you do stick with it you'll live longer and be happier.
Good job on being smart enough to stay away from the fad and low carb diets too!!! Those will get you nowhere fast.

HERE ARE THE BASICS:
1. you lose weight by consuming fewer Calories than you burn
2. you gain weight by consuming more Calories than you burn.
3. you should be concerned with losing FAT, not weight.
4. You should be more concerned with your percent body fat, not your weight.
5. the best, most effective way or burning fat is by combining weight-training and cardio exercise. The more muscle you have, the higher your metabolism will be. You will burn more calories all day long, including while you sleep. A health body fat percentage for males is 7-18%, females 18-24% (approximate numbers).
6. you should eat 6-8 small meals each day - this will prevent you from eating 3 large meal which will slow your metabolism while your body works to digest the large quantity of food.
As a general rule of thumb, you should be weight-training 3-4 times per week and performing cardio 3-5 times per week.
Consider hiring a personal trainer (ISSA certified) and a nutritionist. The money spent on these services is worth more than spending money on pills and potions.

you should eat at least 3-4 healthy meals a day. drink a lot of water, it flushes you out. also, if you think you're hungry even right after you've just eaten, it is because you're thirsty. eat regularly. don't starve yourself, because once you start eating again, you'll gain everything back, trust me. eat lots of fruits and veggies.if you want to eat bread, make sure it's whole grain. white bread is pretty fattening. if you're not a vegetarian, you can also eat lean meats, like fish, turkey and chicken breast. to know how much meat you should eat in a day, make your hand into a fist. the size of the back of your hand is how much meat you should eat in a day. eggs are also a good food when trying to lose weight. skip out on sweets, candy, sugary foods, chips, fried foods, ice cream, cake, cookies, and heavily processed foods. if you want something sweet, like for dessert, try berries, raisins or another type of dried fruit. if that doesn't quench your sweet tooth, try Weight Watchers or Smart Ones desserts. if you feel hungry, but don't want to over eat, chew gum. it'll keep your mouth busy until it's time to eat again. cut out ALL soda! if you stop drinking soda, it helps you out A LOT! also, it's very important to keep a food journal. you write down what you eat that day, and see how much you're REALLY eating. and if you go out of line, you can catch it before you make the same mistake the next day. and don't forget to exercise! try walking, jogging, jump rope, dancing, hula hooping, crunches and/or sit-ups, bike riding and swimming. try exercising for 30 minutes a day, and as the weeks go by, build up your time by about 10 minutes each week. good luck!

Suck that in. Consciously hold in and contract your stomach muscles while you’re walking, sitting at your desk or making the an evening meal. This will help to strengthen your abs and your core, and create for you one step closer to some sort of flatter stomach.
