If the world dealt with terrorism and states that sponsored terrorism the way Germany, Japan and Italy were dealt with in WWII, would terrorism stop?

Granted it is a different style of warfare, but 60 years later, Germany, Italy and Japan are successful, contributing nations to the world. All three are in the G8 (Group of 8 richest countries in the world).

If terrorists and terrorist States were dealt with in a most severe fashion as to disuade them from attempting to terrorize, would terrorism stop?

I'm talking full scale war, full occupation, full demilitarization of the people and state, complete destruction of anything that could, may, might, did or is a source of weapons making. Complete utter and total.

I agree. You don't reward terror by giving in to their demands (Mogadishu and Clinton's ordered pullout, Israel and their previous policy of bartering for the release of kidnapped citizens for thousands of terrror prisoners, us if we pulled out of Iraq now). You deal with it like you would any crime, you make it so painful that they wouldn't consider it again, and you make it painful for those who knowingly live with terrorists in their neighborhoods/communities. THEN you reward them for doing things the diplomatic way by reopening trade routes, investing in their businesses.

To stop terrorism, is to stop any form of destruction. Total halt to all weapon manufacturing, even in the US.

I will not agree on any full scale war again.

As most countries now share resources and have nuke weapons hiding, to wage that war would lead to worldwide sufferring- and could be the end of us.

Earthquake and natural catastrophes are triggered when these activities happen.

When other countries deal with terrorist nations with very heavy hand, these so called T nations gain sympathy on the other hand. The more you kill their kind, the more enemies we harvest...

being in the G8 also doesn't mean these nations are not terrorists.

As more and more people have been takiing acting classes, you're never sure.

*To dissuade people from joining these groups is giving their people more options to live a more enjoyable life. Without hidden agendas.

No because these terrorists live here and everywhere. Those country's in WW2 were country's that had armies that fought on battle fields.

These terrorists are cowards and hide with the people. They have a religious motivation which is much stronger then a political motivation.

Plus by moving in and destroying those people or things which may pose a threat under terrorism, you would be creating even more terrorists. People would be angered and motivated by the destruction and occupation of another government.

No it wouldn't stop. The events in history you mentioned didn't really teach anyone anything if they had there wouldn't be terrorists now by your own line of thinking.

As nice as blowing up every country that we consider terrorists is the view is what gets people in trouble. Who are we to call other countries terrorists? Furthermore, and more importantly, where are we going to get enough troops to fight a full scale war...and how are you going to make them believe in a cause that holds no weight whatsoever because nothing will ever change by proving you're more powerful than the other guy.

Terrorism will never stop as long as you have people who think they have been "wronged". However, I believe that such an extreme action would cause such terrorist countries or groups to become handicapped...at least until technology and opportunity gave them the upper hand yet again. Terrorism will always be an on going battle...it's basically a game of King of the Hill only on a much large scale.

Hard. Everyone one of them and their extended families as well. Leave none alive that may one day take up arms. Unleash the dogs of war to the extent that even thinking about joining a terrorist organization would put them into adult diapers. Toss out their civil rights and ignore the Geneva convention.
This, believe it or not, is comming from a Canadian that's sick of these little turds killing innocents.

The reason Americans find these issues so hard to deal with is we haven't been attacked much on our own soil. If we had to deal with continutal attack and destruction as often as a country like Israel, there would be no question as to how to deal with terrorists. And we wouldn't feel quilty about it, either.

I agree. The only way to deal with the unreasonable is to threaten them with extinction.
Stop farting around. We should not be held resposible if a terrorist hides behind innocents.

Interesting...
Who is going to occupy all of those countries? We don't have enough troops. In order to be successful we would have to occupy every Muslim country, would the world perceive this as a "crusade"?

NO.

Terrorist are not going to stop because "we win." They will stop when they're dead. Sorry :/ They think in terms of "holy war" and "sacrificing themselves for heaven" not doing what is best for their "country." Thats the fault with your logic.

There's a saying here in the U.S. "If you outlaw Guns, only Outlaws will HAVE Guns!"
