Good question! Way to go in trying to get healthy! The best way to walk is low intensity/ high intesity. Meaning, you start off walking at a moderate pace for 2 minutes, then walk as fast as you can for 30 seconds to a minute, then slow it down for another 2 minutes, then speed back up for 30 seconds to a minute and so on. Do this for about 20 minutes and I promise you, you will already feel like a new person. Once you get good at it, incoporate some jogging into it. Walk at a moderate speed for 2 minutes, then jog...not too fast...for about 30 seconds to a minute. Repeat the cycle.

You keep at it, you will see results. Also, incoporate eating 5-6 small meals throughout the day. You know, have breakfast, then a snack of fruit and cheese, then lunch, then a snack of fruit and nuts, then dinner, then another snack.

You'll thank yourself later! Good luck!

It will take you much longer to burn the same number of calories in a workout if you walk slow. But if you walk long enough, you can burn exactly the same number of calories, and weight loss will be the same. Unless you have all day to walk, walking faster is a more practical way to lose weight.

Walking faster over a short distance will burn more calories. However, I like walking slower over a long distance, as it is much more relaxing (and easier on my feet/legs!)

The faster the pace, the better. The only way you'll lose weight is if you get your heart pumping, even if its for a short while.

total calories burned is the key. it isn't the speed, it's the distance. walking 3 miles or jogging 3 miles burns the same calories. one takes longer, the other helps aerobic conditioning.

It is healthier for your heart to get your heart rate up to 90% of Max heart rate. This can be estimated as 220-age=max heart rate.
