If you aren't Catholic, why do you care? Prayer comes in many forms, have you ever listened to a Jewish prayer service? I don't understand Hebrew, but it doesn't sound like a party mix to me.

I pray several prayers several times a day. Some are more structured than others, but all have a special meaning to me, and that is what counts.

The Rosary, a very monotonous prayer, is one of my favorites, because of that very reason. Being monotonous, it allows me to meditate on the life of Jesus.

Perhaps you should actually read some of the prayers of the Church and find the true meaning behind them, instead of just beating down that which you obviously do not understand or know.

I've never been to a Catholic church so I couldn't give you a statement about them. However, prayer is supposed to be a heartfelt communication between an individual and God. A person can get up in front of the congregation and offer up a prayer and the people listening to it can give an "amen" of agreement. But if someone is reciting a prayer and people are just echoing that person's words then that sounds like either a cult or a false religion where people are going through the forms of worship instead of worshiping in spirit and truth as Jesus told us the Father is seeking.

It's done that way because we need to memorize what to say in case we go out the night before and get trashed at the club and don't get home until six in the morning. Plus, it adds what some of like to call the Hispanic aerobics to our weekly exercise plan. No really it come from the old Roman Catholic ways of chants the I believe the monks prayed. Not sure though.

i remember i went to a catholic church once...they were talking about all these earthly man made traditions i had to take part in in order to like...be saved you know? it was that same preist that rear ended my moms car, giving her whiplash, then not caring afterwards :P he's had many other traffic problems too but denied them. prayer is prayer... it doesnt matter if it sounds like chanting... i do not believe im to pray to mary though... Jesus did not tell me to do this. i sm a christian not a catholic... you know what else sounds like cult chanting? when people speak in tongues...but that is because the Holy Spirit of God is with them. Prayer is a way of reaching out to God it doesn't matter how it sounds in sync. your not just joyful when u pray to God... u dont just pray to God because your happy.

I don't like to put any religion down. Catholics are the way they are because they were probably born Catholic. But,they follow many pagan practices. Beware of that church. They do things strictly forbidden in the bible. Avoid them at all costs. Many of them will be saved, because God in his infinite mercy winks at their ignorance. I feel that none of the popes will be in heaven, because they set themselves up as God on earth. Many of their own books say the pope is a higher power than Jesus. Wanna know more. E-mail me if they get it working again.

it does sound like chanting... most people just say the words and forget their meaning. i've only been catholic a couple of years...what i've figured out is that for some of the people it's just words, for others, it has real meaning...but to say it out loud is to let those around know this is what he or she believes and participate in the community.

It most definitely does not sound like a cult chanting. If that is what you hear, then you are not listening to the words my dear.
