I have an assignment where I need to answer why California should and should not deny a high school diploma to those who cannot pass the exit exam. It's a debate class, so I need to find good arguments for both cases. Thank you for taking the time to help a student out.

Yes. The skills needed to pass the exit examinations are ridiculously low. If a student cannot pass the tests, they should not be granted a diploma. The real question is what is wrong with California schools? The schools should be able to identify the students who are not even close to functioning at grade level and do something to attempt to correct the problem. So the exit examinations just demonstrate the inability of the schools to teach the skills needed to pass the tests.

To me ,I think if you can pass any other test and are able to
get good grades, then I don't see why you shouldn't be given an
award of diploma. But if you show signs that your behind class credits and can't comprehend the questions you are given, then yes you shouldn't be awarded with a diploma. Because it show your not capable to do the things you were taught. The reason for the diploma is to show that you are capable to preform any task that is given to you weather in collage or work. For all
the people, whom has worked very hard to get a diploma
you have deserved every piece of that certificate. Good Luck
to all whom has accomplished.

Yes they should deny them their diploma because an exit exam is to prove what you've learned and to show that you've earned your diploma.

No, they should pass them anyway. Then when they're not smart enough do do the work of a real job, don't worry...the rest of the office can pick up the slack...let someone else do the hard parts.

Sounds horrible? Ha! It's happening right now!

Yes, they should. Sorry I can't help you with an argument on why they SHOULD let people pass. Maybe because they've passed all of their classes?
