I have a puppy, and I know he's still learning but is there any good method to not have him chew on fabrics, etc. without using the bitter apple spray or anything? Or will they eventually grow out of it?

Make sure there are ample chew toys available... one in each room the dog goes in.

Also, id take an old tshirt, pair of pants that you dont wear anymore...and put bitter lemon spray on it... leave it where the dog usually gets into clothes....the dog will probably go after it, taste it...and never do it again. You can get bitter lemon spray at PetSmart, and all the other stores....

Good Luck...

Get your puppy a Nylabone that is the size for him and when you catch him chewing something he is not suppose too. Take the garment out of his mouth and firmly put the nylabone - side ways in his mouth and tell him sternly to go and chew on that!!

I have pitbulls and once or twice when they were real young and learning, I have stopped them from chewing or trying to chew something they were not suppose to and I would slam the nylabone sideways in their mouth and I did not ever have a problem with them chewing what they are not suppose to chew.

They love the nylabones!! It has saved their lives. LOL

be sure to provide him w/ plenty of chew toys so he can have an alternative thing to chew, and if you keep a close wacth and squirt him w/ a squirt bottle when you catch him chewing the furniture, and reward him when he chews on the toys instead, it should be easy.

When you catch it, firmly tell it "No!" or "No chewing!" and give them something acceptable to chew on (a toy).
