Selfishness. Typical "ugly American" syndrome.
Many affluent Americans are selfish dollar-worshiping blind hippocrites who ignore our Constitution & Statue Of Liberty and what they TRULY stand for. ...their minds would change quick, fast & in a hurry if it was THEM in need of assistance. Our borders should be OPEN to ALL people, not just those posessing money, diamonds, oil, prostitutes, drugs, exotic cars, technologies, weapons, or excessive charisma. Unfortunately, self-decieved selfish-NESS is what "the big deal about immigration" is here. It's embarrasingly tragic how 'we' behave as a Nation. Many Americans deeply cocooned in their comfort zones FAR removed from the true REALITIES of an unsheltered life posess an arrogant sense of entitlement & only THINK they understand the TRUE meaning of hard work and sacrifice. They are about as clueless as spoiled rotten children.
Self righteously wise, these high & mighty people tend to miss the point, like the ancient scribes, pharisees, & saducees that crucified Jesus, while justifying genocidal behavior with their own "scarcity-mentality" brand of warped thinking. Your compassionate "abundance mentality" is good, as evidenced by an EXCELLENT question that money-greedy people cannot even BEGIN to grasp.
Don't EVER loose your soul to the dollar.

First of all, the debate isn't about immigration. In fact, countries welcome immigrants for culture, business, education, and research. But the WAY they get into a country becomes the ultimate conflict.
The United States was often called the "Melting Pot." So many cultures made this country so unique and diverse, making it the envy of all other nations.
But over time, the U.S. has had to increase border control and immigration procedures. In a study done for 2005, the United States experienced a nasty illegal immigration from various countries, mostly Mexico.
It's not that the Americans are racial (well, not ALL are racial) and oppose immigration, but the WAY immigrants enter the country becomes the problem. Why should an illegal immigrant be allowed to have the same rights like that of a U.S. citizen?
It doesn't sound fair and no it's not. Because illegal immigrants "demand" rights but cannot be allegedly "charged" like that of a U.S. citizen, people become angry and demand to deport them.
I know for a fact that the United States is not against immigration. But the WAY it's done is debateful. Most illegals do not want to work to earn their way as a U.S. citizen. They just want the "privileges" the U.S. has to offer. This can go from welfare, healthcare, social security, and so on. Though neither of these are bad or inneffective, illegals start to rely on these social programs more than a U.S. citizen.
Think about it. Should the United States have every right to deport every illegal immigrant? Of course! Why should a foreigner who WANTS to be a U.S. citizen, work hard for it, and then see illegals enter the country on their own free will? Is that fair for them?
When it comes down to it, it goes back to good morals and motives. Legal immigrants are willing to sacrifice and work hard to becoming a U.S. citizen simply because they value what the United States has to offer. But illegal immigrants tend to advantage of everyone and everything else.

RE: Supply and demand .... apparently you didn't go far enough in your lessons in that regard.
If the supply of educated employees is limited, then the wealthy folks have to compete and pay a living wage to keep good employees.
If you open the gates of immigration, then good educated employees are in over supply. The wealthy no longer have to pay a living wage to keep good people on the payroll. The immigrants wind up working for the same slave labor wages they left behind. Only now, our workers have to work for those low wages too!
The only people who win, don't need to win, they are already wealthy. Everyone else starves.
What would make more sense, is to make a world standard for fair wages, labor rules and environmental regulations. Then it would cost the same to do business all over the world. Every one would benefit, presumably the standards would afford a living wage for the working class, everyone who needs to wins!
But since the wealthy control the nomination process in this country, I doubt it will happen here any time soon.

Sally j,
The issue is not about racism for most. Believe me, I have spoken with a good number of people about the immigration problem in the US. I am opposed to the illegal entry into our country. We have laws that govern the LEGAL way to get here. I love the fact that others take great risks to come here and work and become productive citizens. But, we ask that they do this legally.

It's not about racism, it's about morals.
Would you like it if someone illegally came into your home? I don't think you'd be a very happy camper.
The United States is a lot of people's home. You just don't barge into it, take jobs from people who need them (Who are legally here), and send the money back to your wife with 300 children, or jump them over the boarder?
Besides, what about the immigrants who studied hard, worked hard so they could become legal US citizens? How would you feel if you studied for years to pass the test, and when you finally did, someone came in illegally and took the job you needed? They're getting all the benifits you're getting, only you actually had to WORK for it, and they just stumbled in like a bunch of morons and took everything you strived for?
Immigrants come to america and have their babies. They make the legal citizens pay the taxes for the health care, the hospital care, they make citizens pay for their welfare, their food, home, disability...
I don't think you want YOUR hard earned money to go to someone who hasn't earned it.
US Veterans are sleeping on the streets in boxes because our government treats them like dog ****. My father fought in Vietnam. He was shot twice and was almost killed. Do you think he appreciates going there, risking his life, coming home to find out that immigrants who have hopped the boarders of the US are being treated like kings, and HE, who SERVED HIS COUNTRY, who RISKED HIS LIFE, who shed BLOOD for the country he LOVES is being treated like a piece of ****?
What do you think about them apples?

You need to get educated on both sides of the issue before you ask a question like this.
The "supply and demand" argument is one of ignorance.
They come because we give them free handouts.

People like you just don't get it. You never will. Call me a racist. That is fine. It doesn't matter to pro criminals whether or not it is true. I will tell you what it is really about. It's about love for my country and love for my people. That is something that a lying politician doesn't have.

No, it is not all about racism. It is that they have taken jobs from my FAMILY MEMBERS that WANTED THEIR JOBS and were FIRED BECAUSE THE BOSSES COULD HIRE FU*KING ILLEGALS to do the work cheaper because they wouldn't have to pay for insurance and taxes, ect. You have NO IDEA what you are talking about, girlie.

you silly little girl, i hope atleast you are cute. supply and demand, you say? well supply and demand must be at equalibrium, or we have outrageous inflation. you msut be able to supply equal to what you demand. problem is that uneducated mexicans supply very little, but demand alot. they cause inflation, because they cannot pay for the health care they demand, for the schooling they demand for their children. they don't make enough money to pay their share of our infrastructure, or for anything else they use, so we are forced to pay for their share
