there have been times when i have used a floppy at home and it won't open in other computers. it usually asks if i want the disk re-formatted.

I take files back and forth all the time. Used to use floppies but am glad they have flashdrives so I don't have to take work in pieces.

I'm sure you are opening the files, in other computers, in the same program, aren't you. Don't mean to insult you but just recently someone wanted to take one of my Word files home and didn't understand why her Works wouldn't open it.

Depends on how you are formatiing the disk. You cannot use a PC or IBM formatted disk on a Mac and viceversa. On a PC formatted disk when formatting make sure it is not copying system files. Each operating system like Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, etc. have different system files. This can cause issues when interchanged. Otherwise it should work on any PC.
