Below are links to dog breed selectors. You answer some questions about your lifestyle, what size dog you want, and if you want it to shed and it tells you what breed of dog will do the best with you. Try them all because they may give slightly different breeds and ask slightly different questions.

I also have a lab and and his best friend is my jack russell terrier mainly because they both like to do the same exact things. Jack russells are a great family pet and they are very smart just like the black lab and they love to be with bigger dogs. Must be because they think they are big! lol. But the lab loves her to death and it is becuase she acts alot like him and will run for hours on end and still want to keep up with him. They are insepreable. If you do choose to get a jack russell be sure that you do not have cats, or any small animals as they will kill, even if they are totally used to that animal if another dog even makes an attempt to chase the animal you might as well dig a grave for kitty. They are also very easy keepers if you live out in rural areas where they can just run and have fun. There grooming is not as much as a bichon or a snouchzer and they are the best littel dogs you could ever get in my opinion.

I have a chihuahua puppy, one large lab mix, and one medium lab mix. If you do decide to get a chihuahua, just keep an eye out when playing because a small dog like that can get hurt. My big boys were a little nervous at first and didn't know what to do with him, but they eventually warmed up to him and they play very cute, just chasing each other around.

I had a Lasha Apso, and he was a smart little guy, he didn't have the traditional haircut because florida is way too hot for that, and all that hair is a major upkeep problem. If I was getting a dog now, I would try my hardest to try and get a Shiba Inu, as I think thats the coolest looking dog ever made, if I couldn't get a shiba, I would probably get a pug, my friend had a pair and they were so funny (except when they passed gas)

Try doing research on different types of small dog breeds, hopfully you'll find the one that matches what you're looking for.

If you decide to get a small mixed breed like a Puggle for example then that's great but Beagles are nice dogs and they can learn to co-exist with other animals.

A toy fox terrier would be a good choice. The toy fox terrier is a healthy, energetic dog that is cuddly yet playful and very loyal to its owner. They require minimal grooming and they don't eat a lot. They are wonderful for companions and also excel in both conformation and obedience trials. They are well suited for agility trials as well as making excellent assistance and therapy companions. Toy fox terriers also do well with children, and usually love to play and run around.

Hope this helps!

I would say... a cocker or a small dog from the herding group (corgies or shelties). Most small dogs don't like to play around but these for sure....are

1) more friendly than other small dog breeds
2) aren't hounds so they wont trail off (good on your part)
3) aren't aggressive breeds or territorial so they wont try and dominate your larger dog lol

Go to puppyfind.com and the site will help you choose a breed. If you have any questions about a specific breed, I can help you. My name is Amanda. I've worked at pet stored for over 3 years now so I know a lot about animals.

A terrier mix may be good - just don't get a Chihuahua. I have a full blooded one, a terrier mix and a full blooded boxer - the Chihuahua HATES the boxer - she is a demon dog!! I think it has something to do with their size difference. My terrier and boxer get along just fine.

Definitely a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They are so cute and have such a playful, fun, and sweet distemper. They are pricey though, I am trying to save up for one.
