Choose Christ.

For a brief explanation of the gospel (of salvation through Jesus Christ), see http://www.godsci.org/gs/new/essence.html

For scientific and intellectual evidence for the existence of God, see http://www.godsci.org/gs/godsci/evidence.htm

I used to be an atheist. Over a period of time however, I grew convinced of the existence of the Christian God, and ultimately committed my life to Christ (e.g., see http://www.godsci.org/gs/chri/testimony/seek.html ).

Cordially,
John

Well, first I'd ask myself why I'm "considering religion." Are you feeling bad... depressed, confused, lonely, angry, scared,...? If so, I would recommend getting help with a compassionate counselor of some kind, before religion as an answer. There are many wonderful and insightful therapists, no doubt in your area.

You may have other reasons, too. The point is, religion is not the answer to everything.

Now, if you are truly interested in religion... belonging to a church or at least following a system of beliefs that fit you, I strongly recommend visiting one of the two websites I provided, to help you choose.

Though I've only used one (beliefnet), it really clarified my position about the various religions. You answer questions and it points you to a religion which fits your beliefs. It even allows for the possibility that you might be agnostic, which I consider a very reasonable position, rather than labeling yourself with some group just to say you did, and then trying to swallow beliefs you don't really feel. Better to find the one which aligns with what *you* feel. Beliefnet's "Belief-O-Matic" pointed out, for example, that I fit in well with the "Secular Humanists," and I am very comfortable with the label and the list of beliefs they espouse.

That's the other part of your question... once you answer the questions, you'll see a list of religions and the percentage of beliefs that match your own (at least that's how it was when I took it). Then you can get more details about the closest fit, and you'll have your answer to "why?" :-)

Good luck, stay open-minded -- but careful about pushy, narrow-minded people and misinformation -- and I hope your choice brings some much-needed goodness to the world.

Well first of all you should tell us the reason behind you choosing a religion. Is it for fashion or to find the truth on your existence and what you should do to end the sufferings of living. Is it because you feel that you should have one? There could be many reasons behind your decision. But, I believe that you would make a wise choice - My advice for you is to take a bit of time, not to rush in to it, and start studying a bit on every thing that you could get material on. Then you can meet a few people who know the subject - better to meet the clergy member it self - and clear out the unclear areas.

After wards, you will not have to choose - but you will know and have a clear understanding on what is right !

Good luck on your endeavor.... I am forwarding a link which contains a bit of study material - If you have any unclear areas in that you can drop a line on me.

You should try out a few religions before actually choosing one. There is no one true religion, and you should choose the one that actually feels right to you.
There are a lot of people on here who will tell you to choose Christianity, Buddhism, whatever. All they're trying to do is get you to choose their religion because they think it's the only right way to go. You need to find out for yourself which one you should choose, instead of asking people to choose one for you.
Anyways, like I said, try a few religions out before actually choosing one. Here are some tips that may help you:
1) research them
2) go to the religion's church, mass, or rituals
3) Do your personal beliefs fit with it's standard beliefs? if so, then it may work; if not, try something else
4) Does it make enough sense to you?
Good luck and Blessed be

Try to see which one makes any sense. Why do you believe in God in the first place? He must have given a set of laws. Who testified that he gave his laws? Was it just a handful of people or thousands? See if the religion is full of fairy tales or paradoxes. Does it make sense to say that God gave birth to a child? Do you want to believe in someone that woke up one morning and said he was a prophet? The main thing you have to know is that joining a religion is not like becoming a member of a club. You must believe. Whatever you believe, that is what you are. For more information you can look at other yahoo answers that I have given or contact me ehvehn@yahoo.com.

Pick a church and just go. You can call and tell them you are going to come, and most of the time they will let you come in during the week and someone will sit down with you and help answer some questions. I think you're first step is just to buy a bible, if you don't already have one, then just pick a christian church that follows the bible. Some churches don't. But any church is better than none. I promise that if you do just that, You will be able to feel God's presence in your life and he'll guide you from there!

There is no way any of what we say can help you decide what church. It has to be between you and God.

I was raised a preachers kid and I can tell you that you have to follow your heart and you will know when its right. Many churches have different doctrines. Find out what their doctrines are and if it is inline with what you feel in your heart you have found a new church home.

I won't mention any denomination, but I would choose one that is Bible based, preached from and believe in the Holy Trinity

Choosing to follow a faith, should be a personal decision, based on what your heart feels is right. You owe it to yourself to investigate different religions, and see if their beliefs are consistent with what the Bible teaches.
And not just some of the teachings, but ALL the teachings should be Bible based.Only then will you have found the true religion.
You could ask yourself - Do they use God's name?
- Do they use the Bible as the only source for their beliefs?
-Do they have a love for one another?
-Do they worship idols?
-Do they worship a trinity God?
-Do they practice morality?
-Do they preach to others about God's Kingdom?
-Do they know what God's kingdom is?
So there are many things to consider. The Bible tells us that 'each will render an account".So we need to be responsible in our choice and stick to it even if it is not popular with our friend.

you may want to just sit in on a few different kinds of religious ceremonies and see how each one feels to you.

i don't want to judge your path if that means seeking your spirituality in the form of religion is what you need to learn. personally, i recommend working to establish direct connection with god rather than working through a middle man of established religions. this is the only way to recieve truth first hand. after that, it's hear-say. if you are interested in this kind of approach, the book the "the right use of will" by ceanne derohan can help get you started.

A square doesn't fit in a round hole. It's the same for us all. We choose a religion and if it doesn't fit or we outgrow it, then we move on to something that satisfies this deepening desire to know God. All religions were created and continue to serve the different stages of consciousness of man.
