It is a myth that alcohol destroys brain cells; however, chronic alcohol abuse does lead to neurological damage leading to problems with learning and physical co-ordination. That said, the brain seems to repair itself in those who later stop drinking and abstain from further alcohol usage.
However, all that drinking does take a toll on the liver and that organ will not regenerate. The damage done there is permanent. And, if an alcoholic destroys their liver, they are automatically deemed non-candidates for liver transplants due to the high incidence of recidivism. A new liver will not be given to someone who drank their own liver to death.

Take it from me, Alchohol will alot more than cause brain damage. I heard of a guy who drank a 10 pack everyday since he was 20; he died 4 months ago because his liver was so completely deteriated that there was nothing but scar tissue. He was 43. Drinking excessively will you, let alone cause long term brain damage.

my partner is a heavy drinker and during the past 4 years i have noticed alot of changes in him. How he speaks... slurring. i read on the net that drinking doesnt kill brain cells. what it actually does is damage the brain stem not to function properly. Most drinkers have trouble sleeping because the brain is very active trying to repair it self. sometimes this is too late.... Best advice.. drink in moderation so that the body has time to repair its self

Yes is the answer to your question.
That's not all alcohol will do to your body.
It can cause liver damage, heart damage,
kidney, bone marrow and many other
life threatening occurrences.
My advice is not to drink at all, but if you
do, drink in moderation.
A lot of my family members have died due
to alcohol. Please don't let this be your
destiny...

I don't think so. Maybe if you ended up in the hospital with severe alcohol poisoning, but even then I think you'd come out of it. I've heard of people going temporarily blind due to excessive drinking...

yes it affects almost every organ in your body. I stopped drinking over 3 years ago, it isn't always easy but if i can stop so can you. 3 things i had to do to stop drinking...1.stop feeling sorry for myself,2. stay away from situations that made me want to drink.3.stay away from friends who like to drink all the time, if they are true friends, they will want to support you,if not they really are not true friends. good luck to you!
