Considering the current heat wave that is affecting most of the US, I would strongly recommend NOT shipping an animal right now. Wait till the weather gets cooler.

From American Airlines:
-------
Temperature Requirements and Restrictions

Warm-blooded Animals and Birds
For the health and safety of your animal, American Airlines follows the USDA guidelines for shipping animals during periods of extreme temperatures. The optimum temperature range for transporting most warm-blooded animals, including birds, is between 45 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit at the origin, destination and connecting cities. Warm-blooded animals will not be accepted for transport if the actual or forecasted temperature exceeds 85 degrees Fahrenheit at any city on the routing.

Better yet, adopt from a breed rescue group near you - Border Collies are often turned in to shelters and rescue groups because people don't do their research before buying them and end up with a dog that is unsuitable for their lifestyle.

Dude - Most likely It's going by plane. Please by all means don't do it. You have no idea what goes on in a plane. The poor thing can freeze to death. Trust me, I use to work in an airport. The baggage handlers could careless whats in a cage, It's getting tossed like any other bag.

Please listen to me, If you really want that pup - Go on a Border collie web-site and ask if anybody can help you transport your pup. I tell many people on this site the same thing. You would be surprised on how many people will be more than happy to help you, I'm one of them.

This is not a joke - Just ask and let us know what state your pups in. I in NY - Illinois is not a problem for me.

It usually costs about $250 to ship by airline. But it depends on who you are buying them from. It is best to buy from a place where you can actually see the parents and see where the puppy was born and raised, otherwise you might be buying from a puppy mill and have serious health problems. Do NOT buy from a pet store either, they are just a way for puppy mills to sell more puppies.

email or call the breeder and get the costs and the way the pet will be shipped. you might also go on line to border collie rescue. they have all kinds and sometimes will meet you half way to deliver. all kinds of nice dogs and puppies at least check it out. also a nice site is petfinders .com and type in the breed you are looking for. you will be very surprised at the nice pets out there who are lost or homeless. good luck

Talk to the breeder about how the puppy will be shipped. It approximately costs from $250-$275. You can pay online by paypal or another online paying resource.

I rescued a dog and had it shipped via Air. It cost approximately $250.00. However, she was in really rough shape when I picked her up. Vomiting and Diarrhea. She was a mess. I do not think I would ever do that again to a poor dog!

It would depend on how far, how big, etc...I had my pup shipped from UK to US. It cost £500. He came by air in a specially built travel container...
