2001 was a turnaround year for Hynudai. That is when they started building better quality cars and offering the 60K bumper to bumper and 100K powertrain warranty.

The only downside is that this was the first year for the "change" and it was the first year of that body style, so issues could be hit or miss.

That being said, if it has been well maintained and the current owner has not had any problems, I think you would be fine.
If the car is reasonably priced and the prior owner has all of the service records, I wouldn't worry about "what could go wrong". You will worry about that with any car.

Had a 2000 elantra that I traded in (on a Sonata) that had 80,000 miles on it. I had the oil changed every 3000-4000 miles, replaced 2 tires and one timing belt (at 60,000 miles) plus changed the plugs once and the air filter once. I had no other problems and the car was running fine when I traded it in. I would say that they last.
