is it because of our leaders? or the prevelance of the internet and visual mediums?

So don't use it. Then you'll see why it has the rating it does.

Also, the plural of medium is media, when used in reference to communication. Mediums is the plural of medium when used in reference to psychics. Just so you know.

Our leaders seem lately not to rate language highly.

Who says it's over- or underrated? Never heard that before. Languages are fantastic! Still need language skills to use the Net as that is more than TV a "reading" medium.

Overrated? It's really not... it's the only way we really have to communicate with each other, essentially.

In English, it actually seems a bit underrated, in that no one really cares to express themselves well.

Perhaps you meant to say something else? "Overrated"? What do you mean? Perhaps you meant to say: "Why is this movie rated R? There isn't any bad language. It think it is overrated."

try communicating your question without using language... then you'll understand its importance.
