My daughter is fourteen and she doesn't go anywhere without a trusted adult.

P.S. I did check your profile to make sure that you weren't my daughter.

Have you done something recently to lose their trust? How about your cousins? Are they trustworthy? Maybe you can make a deal with your parents. I'll be home by such and such or you don't have to let me go again.

Each kid is different. I let my 21 year old start going out until 10 when he was 12. Then, he could stay out til 11 when he was 15. At 16 it was midnight and at 18, well, he pretty much took over.

My second, I wouldn't let stay out late until he was 17. Even now I want to know where he is going and if he comes in after midnight he is given restrictions.

My 15 year old tells me when he is going to be back and he never requests past 11 unless he is with a family. He learned from his older siblings the easier way of life. He also knows how bad things can be out there.

I used to have to be home by 7 during the week and 10 on weekends until I was 16. Then it was 10 during the week and 12 on weekends until I was 18. My parents protected me, and I HATED them for it at the time. Later on, I realized I had better discipline than most of my friends and I thank my parents. I finished college at 19. I am an average student. Like I said, I just learned better discipline.

My mom was the same way with me, maybe she doesn't trust some of your cousins or doesn't think they r responsible enough to keep u outta trouble while u-r with them. Try letting her know that u are old enough and responsible enough to chill with your cousins for a while. Besides they're family it's not like u wanna go out with a group of new friends or a boyfriend. Oh yea, she'll totally get over this and just let u go.

It depends on (1) how old your cousins are, and (2) where they want to go. If they are your age and want to go to church, its not the same as if they were over 21 and wanted to go to Vegas. It also depends a lot on how mature you and your cousins are.

Some requests are more reasonable than others. Maybe your folks are overprotective, and maybe you just think they are. To get a better prospective on this talk to some adults you trust, like your aunt, minister (or youth leader), or school counselor for example, and see what they think.

I had a curfew until I was out of High school. I was angry for a long time...but as an adult now...I'm grateful. A lot of my friends were in trouble (drugs, drinking and sex). They ended up in jail, or as teen aged parents. Out of all of my friends, I'm one of the few that went to college and graduated on time and without children.

We as parents are hard on our children...but we only do it because we care. I know it seems like they're being mean...and I felt the same way..but deep down inside, please know that they care about you.

You're lucky...at least you got to go with your cousins! I barely got to go to prom...and I was 17!!!

Be patient and show they that you're mature and capable of making good decisions...they might back off a little!

Good luck. (I'm 27 now...married and I have one child)

It could have a lot to do with who your cousins are and where they usually go. One thing you can always count on in life is that your parents will always look out for your best interests. Try not to give them a hard time :)

Maybe they know your cousins are just like they and their brothers and sisters used to be, so they know better than let you hang out with a bunch of bloody useless loonies like they used to be (and maybe still are).

Because a lot of 14 girls nowadays got their legs pinned behind their head. Your parents don't want that to be you.

Because you're only 14 and they love you. You wouldn't want parents that just let you do whatever...those parents don't care.
