My kids are 7 & 10 and I haven't been very strict about bedtime during the summer, but no matter what time they went to bed they still have to get up at 7:30 AM. Every once in a while they might stay up till midnight, but not very often.

My kids can stay up an hour later in the summer than they do during the school year. They still need there sleep and we go places during the day, swimming, the park, the library, etc...

During the school year they go back to their rooms around 7:30, brush teeth, change clothes and then we read to the younger one and the older one reads to himself. Lights are out by 8:00. In the summer everything moves an hour so you have lights out at 9:00. Of course there are many more exceptions to this rule in the summer. I find it is a much easier transition back to school if they sleep stays somewhat consistant.

My kids are 8, 4 1/2 and 5 months.

Summers are hard because the sun goes down so late. Embarrassed to say my 6 yr old has been going to bed around 10, sometimes 11. 8:30-9pm during the regular school year. I figure she can sleep in but she still gets up pretty early. She ends up needing a nap in the afternoon. But if I force her to bed at 8:30, she just lies there until 10 or 11.

Ok i know i am not an adult and i don't have any kids. but My parents let me and my older sister stay up til what ever time in the summer unless we have some where to goto early the next morning. (me and my older sister are teenagers) but for school me and my older sisters bed time is like 10:30pm. but my younger brother and sister's summer bedtime is like 10:30 maybe just a little bit later. but they can't stay up like real later cuz they are a few years younger. But during school theirs is like 10 or 10:30pm. I guess it just depends on your way of parenting. and how old your kids are and if they goto sleep late if when they wake up they are crabby or not. So it is all up to you but i hope i helped.

Well, depends on how old the kids are:
6-7: About 9:00
8-9: 9:30-9:45
10: 10:00
11+ 10:30-11:00

Our son (age 6) goes to bed at 7:30 and is allowed to read until 8 p.m. In the summer sometimes he gets to stay up maybe half an hour later. Regardless of the time he goes to bed, he is always up at 7 a.m. His doctor recommends 11 hours of sleep every night for his age group, which we try to make sure he gets.

I will let 7yr old stay up till 10:00 or so, sometimes he doesn't make it that late. But now with a couple of weeks until school starts for him, i've put him back on his school schedule....8:00 and i wake him up early, just so it's not a big shock to the system when school does start.

My kids KEEP there same school bedtime. It is MUCH easier that way. My youngest kindergartener goes to be at 7:30 and he can read and look at books for 30 minutes at 8 it is lights out.

My 8 year old daughter has a goes to bed at 8 and can read for 30 mintues with lights out at 8:30.

My 9 year old son goes to bed at 8:30 and can read for 30 mintues and lights out at 9 pm.

If they choose not to read then it is LIGHTS OUT!
Works GREAT for us.
School starts back here for us on the 9th of August.

I have two sons, 15 and 13. The older one is not much of a sleeper, never has been and usually stays up later than I do. (midnight). The younger one goes by 11 unless he has something early the next morning, then it's 10.
