because they dont like being wet. obviously i guess they dont like the way it feels or something

Cats love status quo, and prefer routine above all else. Water—especially when used for a bath (shudder!)—is the unexpected at its worst, according to the cat. Water running into the sink or bathtub sounds scary besides. And often, water gets into the cat’s eyes or ears—that’s not only potentially painful, but frightens the cat even more when she can’t see or hear normally.

Cat fur sheds moisture so even a cat caught in the rain has the ability to keep her skin pretty warm and dry. But a dunking soaks the fur clear to the skin, strips away that insulating cushion of body-warmed air caught at skin level, and feels unexpected and distasteful to the cat. Wet fur clings to the skin, adds uncomfortable weight to heavily furred felines, and interferes with fur function. After all, dry fur can be fluffed to send a bragging message to other cats, or to allow a cool breeze access to the skin.

That’s not to say that cats fear water all the time. Water preference varies between individuals, and when water encounters are on the cat’s terms, many kitties enjoy dabbling a paw in the water bowl or fish tank. And with patience, some cats can be trained to accept bathing—after all, show kitties are bathed all the time. In fact, one gorgeous breed called the Turkish Van, or the "Turkish Swimming Cat" loves water so much they may join you in the bathtub!

Not all are... I had a cat that would jump in the shower with me! I think it depends on how they were raised, if you never gave them a bath before and now he's 3 years old and you're trying to, of course he's gonna get scared, he doesn't know what water is! If you start bathing them young and regularly they get used to it.

They are not afraid. They dont like it!!!Cats are lazy by nature and all that licking to groom and get dry is what they dont like about the water.Tigers go swimming did you know that??So do leopards and other cats,.not lions as they are among the laziest cats.

because cats ancestors live in the savannah,a desert, and didnt need that much water, so to bathe in it is just weird for them, but my cat likes it so much, she pees in the water.
