I can't remember it hurting when mine came off but that was almost 15 yrs ago. I remember it feeling soooo good when they were off. AHHH!!! They popped my brackets off with some kind of special tool. The bands may have been a little harder to get off. My orthodontist also took a thin file and ran it between a few of my teeth and that kinda hurt. The retainers are a breeze after wearing braces for so long. At first it takes a getting used to of course. You may have trouble talking with them in at first, kinda gives you the slurs. You'll be fine though. Congrats on your new smile!!!

No it should not hurt and yes you are going to smell that bad smell again that is just part of removing the cement. Very easy to remove brackets though nothing to worry about. It will just take a day or so to get used to your retainer. Not a big thing.

it doesn't hurt near as much as any pain you've experienced during the time you've had braces. the retainer is a pain but you'll adapt to it. if the retainer is to keep your teeth in place, you should ask your orthodontist if you could possible get the plastic invisible one. There are no wires which leaves less of a chance of ripping up your lips.

You are definately going to notice a change in the feeling of you teeth, nothing bad, but it will just take some getting use to. (just think bact to when you got your braces on.) It does not hurt to get the braces off, however, I do remember it just seeming loud as they were getting the brackets off. So that kind of startled me, but it was nothing bad...weird noise, no pain....no argument there, right?
Enjoy your new smile!

I got my braces off july 5th, I was scared to death even though everybody said it wouldnt hurt. When they took the back bands off, those came off easy, didnt hurt. When they took the brackets off, didnt hurt (that was what i was most scared of) its just a snap, snap, snap, comes off easy. When they cleaned my teeth, it didnt hurt, but it will make your gums bleed a little, no big deal.
My gums were immflamated so they prescrbied a mouthwash for me to use for only 10 days, it helped. Ask the doc what is the best mouthwash to use for immflamated gums.

i had my braces for a year. and getting them off was the worst!! i had an orthodontist "in-training" take them off. needless to say it was his first time w/o supervision and he used the wrong tool. it felt like he was yanking my teeth out one by one! luckily the real orthodontist came to check on him right b4 he started on my bottom teeth and that was painless lol... so answer is, it shouldnt hurt, and retainers r fine. no pain or anything :)

It does not hurt to get them off. I had braces for 3.5 years when I was a teenager.
I am also a general dentist now.
Everyone gets used to their retainers and they are not uncomfortable.

You will be running your tongue over your teeth for about 3 days. There is no way to describe how funky it feels, but it didn't hurt.
