I have just got a temporary job as a bouncer and I want to know if I should wear some kind of protection. My employer will issue me with a kevlar vest but should I wear anything else? steel toe boots or a box (groin protector) for example. Im too embarresed to ask the other guys for advise.

I would if I were a man. You never know where some violent drunk person is going to try to hit you, ya know.

The best protection u could is your Brain.Try and talk w/ the patrons sometimes u can talk them out of a fight and leaving.BUT other times you are going to have to fight them. Are u ready to fight? 90% of the time u will win,but that leaves 10% loss.I am a cop who worked off duty at bars for years. My best advise is to get another job, sure the job has it's perks, but by and large fighting sucks after a while.Getting to your protection question, yes always carry a rubber w/ you.you have no idea how many chicks you are going to get.Buy them by the dozen.(so I've heard). If you are working @ a bar that u even think u need to wear a vest.Get out now!!!They don't pay you enough.find another bar that you feel is safer, they probably pay better.

If you need a vest to work the door, I hope you get paid well. But normally, no. Bouncers do no wear protective equipment.

Yes, wear protection on the job AND off the job. On the job, wear a cup 'cause you never know who's gonna try something. Off the job uses protection too, 'cause you never know who was with the hot chick you hooked up with while on the job ;-)

It all depends where you are going to bounce at.. In your upscale bars I would think a nice suit would work .. If you are going to bounce in a bad section of town where known fights happen then you might want that protection...

Us bartenders always wear protection. Now the Busboys on the other hand are filthy beggars.

Wear the cup. You will know if you don't need it after the first week.
