Or do you assume that the person really didn't hear you at all?

If you haven't figured it out, I'm asking if you consider silence in response to a prayer to be a 'no' or 'maybe'. Why can't God actually *say* 'no' or 'maybe' instead of just giving no answer at all?

I think God is not really there, but I want to hear what the believers have to say.

I meant ask for 'something from someone' not 'ask for someone' in the question.

I think that to get an answer for God in the same way as you would a person in the flesh is a bit anthropomorphic but I know that many people would want there to be a response. I am agnostic so I think that no response is just the fact that you are praying to a god and no a human or something that is actually physically in front of you. Perhaps the answers that people seeking come in the feeling of hope they get when believe that something or someone is looking out for them.

So I think that a silent response to a question is neither "no" or "maybe" but perhaps the answer comes elsewhere...

I think not hearing anything sometimes means not yet. I believe in God because that's how I was raised. I think sometimes when I ask Him for something, he's not ignoring me, but telling me to be patient. But even if the answer is yes, I have never heard God speak to me. It's just a feeling that I'm not alone. I have a firm belief in God, but I don't preach to others. If you believe, then good, but if you don't, then I never try to change someone.

Well, sometimes I think the answer is no, and sometimes they didnt hear me.

And I make it a habit not to ask anything of God that is selfish, and submit to his will, that way I never have to expect the answer, and I am happy when he says no, because I know its not right for me.

God doesn't answer you out loud. He answers all prayer in His own time, not yours. Sounds inconvient, I know, but thats the way it is. You have to believe that He heard you, even if you don't have proof. That's what faith is.
