I'm going to highlight my hair and I don't know what color I want to highlight it. I have natrual black hair with some really dark brown burgundy shades in it with about 4 or 5 reddish brown streaks. What colored highlights should i get?

Here's a picture of my hair to help you out =]

Choosing the right color is the key to success. One should take a good look at your natural hair color in bright daylight. Then pick a shade that will complement your eyes and skin tone. For example, if you have a warm complexion (yellow or olive tones), select colors with names like auburn, copper, red or sienna. Cool skin types (fair, ivory or ruddy skin) should look for colors with ash or beige tones. For help choosing, call the manufacturers' consultants; they can suggest a color and product that will give you the best results.

If you want highlights and at-home products are all your budget will allow, I suggests highlighting just a few pieces around your face. My favorite: Clairol Herbal Essences Highlights, which has an easy-to-use comb and a color formula that shows up either blue, yellow or red (depending on what color you're using) so that you can see exactly where you've put the highlights.

Highlights consist of selecting small or thick strands of hair that are then lightened at least 2 shades lighter than the rest of your hair. Highlights should compliment your natural or artificial color. One misconception of highlighting is that highlights are only blonde in color. This is not true. If your color is a level 3 (dark black/brown) you can add highlights that are a level 6 (medium brown). You should never go more than 3 shades lighter then the rest of your hair color. The object of highlighting is to give you a sun-kissed look and to bring depth and light to your overall color. If you color and highlight, it is not necessary to highlight every time you color. Opt for highlight every other color appointment.

You left your face out of the picture which is the most important part in determining which colour to use. You should use a colour that matches your skin's undertones. If you have yellow undertones, then blond is good. If you have red, then red is good. It does not matter what shade your skin is. My sister is darker than I and blond highlights look really good on her. My skin has a red undertone, so blond looks crappy on me.

Well, judging from the photo, and the fact that you said you have natural reds in your hair already, I would go with this great color from Garnier, it's # 76, and it's called HOT TAMALE. I also have very dark hair, and natural red undertones, and this worked great for me, I love it.

when you go to your colorist (which i'm assuming you're doing) ask your stylist for WARM carmel brown color or possibly a nice warm auburn. I would suggest searching online for pictures as well to give your colorist a better idea of what you would like.

Your hair is beautiful! Why color it? If you really want something new, add more deep red. Don't do anything too drastic, or it'll just look bad! Good luck!

Something soft like a brown that isn't too light to bring your face out.
