Depends on what you have to offer him or her. If you have a fenced in yard you can go for a large dog, like a lab or collie etc...if you are apartment dweller then look at the small ones. Also check what breed is good with children if you have any. I have a Maltese but we are an old couple and that is perfect for us. It is the most loving dog we ever owned, well he owns us. I just can't imagine anymore what we did before he came into our lives. He is the glue that holds me up, truly. My husband has Alzheimer but he does remember the dog and how to walk him. The friendship between them is just unreal.
Also check the ponds , there are always good dogs in need of homes.
Good luck

It all depends on if you want a big dog or a small dog, a dog that needs a lot of attention or a dog that can stand being alone for a while. If you want a small dog i recommened a maltese or a yorkie. I would also recommened a pug becasue they dont need to much attention. If you want a big dog i would recomened a golden retriever becasue they are very smart dogs. Labradors are good too but they are very playful as puppys. There are many websites you can go on to research. good luck

Well , If you have a big house with a big yard you could get a big dog. But if you live in an apartment big dogs won't have enough room. Also if you are getting a dog for the first time try to get an easy dog to take care of and train.

I suggest visiting www.animalforum.com and taking their pet questionaire. It will ask you certain questions like how much exercise you're willing to offer a dog, how much grooming you want to have to do, what kind of area you live in (snow dogs aren't good in Texas, for example). After you complete the questionaire, it will bring up a list of dogs that meet your abilities, expectations and desires.

If you are a beginner on dogs, get a breed that is easy to train, like a lab or golden retriever. But if you're an expert, get rott or a pit bull( depends where you live at)

a pembroke welsh corgi, its a small dog with the body of a medium sized dog, its very intellegent, haven't seen a stupid one yet. They are very lovable and funny. Mine seems to have a personality of her own, along with its facial expressions :)
But if you want to help the world adopt one from the pound, many beautiful dogs are put to sleep because no one wants them.

if you want a dog that never gets tired of playing, and is great a fetch, and extremely smart you'd want a Border Collie. If you want the greatest all-around well-rounded dog you'd want a Labrador Retriever.
