Walk away from the situation with some kind of dignity. Don't chase after him or crush after him any further.
You see, if your bestfriend likes him, and he likes her back, sometimes stepping down is the best policy.
you can always find someone that you will like and the feeling will be mutual.
Another thing, if he DID like you, and you never seen each other, then it wouldn't be worth the time and effort you would have to put into such a "relationship",and it would be unfair.
Be fair to yourself, walk away.

I'd stay away from him. He likes your bestfriend and it's a great rule that if you want to keep your best friend you never go after their guy, even if he's their ex guy. It's difficult, but you'll find better. Stay positive and hopeful because it will happen.

let him go. if you two would be in a relationship, you said it yourself, you wouldn't see much of each other. plus, he likes your best friend. why throw away a good friendship w/the guy for awkward moments and a break up>?

Yes, let him go. If he already likes your friend just move on. You must NEVER chase a guy.

Honey you never had him to let go of. Move on and forget this guy, he's got eyes elsewhere.

Let him go and move on. Otherwise you could not only lose him but also your best friend...

Yes, let him go if you care about your friend more than yourself. Let them be happy.
