I've totally enjoyed reading St. John of the Cross and he has a great book called, "The Dark Night of the Soul". Which I highly recommend to anyone interested in spiritulaity (not just Christians)

But wait, you say... You're a Pagan!!! What are you reading Christian literature for?

I'm weird okay. Deal with it.

Anyway...

The phrase Dark Night of the Soul gets tossed around a fair amount so... What does it mean to you? Is it a bad thing? Is it a good thing? What comes of it?

"Dark night" speaks of the cleansing of the Soul through various stages.

To make one ready for the glory of the divine presence. It transcends all religion.

To Carol M:

Have you ever read "The Dark Night of the Soul," by St. John of the Cross, or any of his other works?

What right do you have to call his work from Satan?

St. John of the Cross was a man Filled with the Holy Spirit, & a true man of God indeed.

And yes, I've read "The Dark Night of the Soul."

I think we as human beings have both a light and a dark side to our soul, if we let the dark side have it's way, then we let self gratification control us, then we become the victim of our dark side, as well as those we directly affect by fulfilling only our physical wishes and desires. It does not mean that all extra marital affairs fall into this category, sometimes people seek that in others that is profoundly missing in their spouse; either on a spiritual or physical level, or both. We are all individuals with different needs and wants, but we must learn to control these cravings of the dark side of the soul.

It is a good think it is the testing of ones faith and ones character. All Christians will face it at least once in their lives. Some will come out of it better Christians and some may discover their faith wasn't as strong as they believe.St. John was and is an amazing saint.
Peace Be With You,
