I have performed on many different pianos and not all of them have been black. The black pianos are prefered because they will match the theatre but also if you're playing with an orchestra, it matches the wardrobe of the orchestra members. As well black is the standard color because black matches anything, performers attire, other members if you are playing chamber music. And black looks good on stage.

Many people believe that the case of a piano should be as artistically stunning as the music that can be produced on it. If the piano is a color suitable for the occasion, the decor, the attire of the performers, the performer's style, and most importantly the music being played, then why not?

How about more than 20 different kinds of wood on the case alone, plus hand-painted artwork and inlaid mother-of-pearl?

i have a beautiful medium colored wood (not sure what kind) upright piano that i love in my house! but when i do a recital, i'd rather have a sleek black baby/grand piano to draw more attention to the music as apposed to the structure of the piano.
