If you're asking "why do we make mistakes?", it is a normal learning process. I'm not sure about your reference to work, school & bf/gf. Mistakes can be made any time, any place, anywhere, by anyone.

Basically everybody in this world make mistakes. Making mistakes is part and parcel of our growing process. once we make a mistakes, we must learnt to reflect the mistake and do not repeat it. Sometimes we also can learnt from other mistakes so we know what is the right thing and what is the wrong thing.
Some people don't even reflect what mistakes they made, they only realised when somebody tell them.
Certain mistakes is unforgivable when it is being committed and especially when you are matured enough to know your action.
So we must be brave and face our own mistakes and learn from it

Mistakes are a part of life. We all make mistakes when we're young and we learn from them. Making mistakes help us not to make the same mistakes again. We all live and learn from mistakes.
