First of all, public of USA doesn't hate metric system. On SAT math exams, they are actually using km! On the other hand, Americans just simply wish to be special. Britian has now changed to metric and etc. A LOT of Americans actually prefer and use metric more than the mile and the inches and IB and miles etc.
So, dear Americans, follow the generations and become globalized ^___^!

Tradition. The metric system is being used more as time goes on, but there is an awful lot of equipment already in place using the older measurements, as well as perfectly useful tools that aren't going to wear out any time soon.
I imagine that things may change over eventually, but there is an awful lot of social momentum to overcome.

because we are a weird country. We're the only one who uses it. Metric makes more sense, but there are plenty of stubborn Americans here that will refuse to switch to metric. It would be a weird transition but I think it better in the long run.

We inherited it from the British, and are not adjusting to the metric system.

and of course they use metric system on standardized tests - because they are faster to calculate often just moving comma

it would be too hard for the older generations to change and thats what we have been taught and whats sooo wrong with that?
