Yes, they sure can. First thing you need to get your little guy out there for a walk, at least 20 minutes or so, everyday. This way you will get to spend time with him, and he with you and he'll have a great time. He's not human, always remember that. Dogs don't know boredom. He's fine. But remember, you are his pack leader. What this means is, you are a pack member to him. He does not know that you are human, he just knows that you feed him, give him water etc. Also, make sure this is a natural activity for him, laying around and not doing anything. Be sure he's not ill or getting that way. If he's always done this, then most likely he's just fine, and would love to go for that walk. Spend some play time with him also. Or better yet, dogs love doing this.... get a couple of his treats, and begin to hide them in an open area, like just next to a wall, or a leg of a chair, and show him generally where they are, and he will begin to find them on his own, then you might be able to hide them in a small box, etc. Dogs love doing this, because if you remember from Puppy 101, all dogs are born smelling first. Yes, smelling is their #1 way of finding things. Next is hearing, and then sight. This is why their eyes don't open up until they do when babies. All dogs rely more on their noses and ears than eyesight. So, get out there and play some games with your fur baby, he'll love you for it. You'll like it too. :)

Dog's do get board. They need stimulation as we do. You will have to take the time however. Try some of these:
Petting your dog with clothes of different texture's, it sounds weird but they seem to like it.
Give them a new toy every few days/weeks.
Move some of their items in the house around...the food bowl.
Make sure he/she can see outside.
Good luck with the yorkie.

Well, I'm not sure if they get bored, but I do know that they can feel lonely or neglected. Do you have anyone else around the house to keep him occupied? If not, then have you considered getting another dog to play with him, or toys and food he likes so that he will have something to do?

Well I mean no one is expected to play with their dogs 24/7. Dogs like to relax too..as long as you don't completely ignore him ALL the time I'm sure he's happy with a short play session every day.

Get a kong toy and stuff it with peanut butter or special Kong kibble or dog food. They will spend hours trying to get the food out. There are also toys out there on the market to keep them busy and active. Some they have to figure out how to get the treats out, etc. Dogs love them. Do you need to free up more time to walk him and pay attention to him? Does he have a doggie door into a fenced yard that he can access at will? Can you play fetch in the house while you are doing something else too? You may have to come up with some imaginative ways to accomplish your tasks and play with him too. Bored dogs can become destructive dogs......

Having a pet is good practice for becoming a parent. You have to take the responsibility to play with your pet each day, feed it, make sure it always has water, and give it excercise. Dogs need something to chew on and toys to play with when they are bored. Yes, they can get very bored. If you are too busy to care for your pet, you can hire a certified pet sitter to come once or twice a day to care for your pet and walk your dog.

Doesn't sound good :( Because this came on suddenly though I would say there is hope she is just sick and the vet can help her recover. Usually when a dog is going through the death process due to old age, it is a gradual decline. This came on yesterday so very sudden. So glad to hear you will be taking her to the vet today. Best thing to do. Hope she recovers. Think positive but prepare for the worst.

When dogs look like they're down, or "bored" it means they need to get out and exercise... take your dog for a walk once or twice daily, that should keep him/her happy.... also, try playing with your dog... get a rope or something where you can both interact together... your dog will love it up...
