Buy a cough drop and make sure it contains the anesthetic benzocaine or dextromethorphan. Keep taking them as needed to numb the back of your throat.

Do you smoke?
If so, could be cancer of the larynx or esophagus.

Congrats for not smoking...please don't ever start.

It could be an allergy.
Sneezing, itchy nose, throat, and ears: These are the most common complaints of the allergy sufferer. These symptoms can be associated with seasonal triggers such as grass, tree, or ragweed pollen, or perennial triggers such as dust mites, roaches, or pets. The first-line treatment for these symptoms are antihistamines.

Try a cup of hot tea with a half of a lemon and as much honey as you like. Also, you can gargle with warm water with salt in it, or spray some chlorasceptic in your throat. I was raised by a nurse... I hope one of these things helps you.

Hoo boy, you're coming down with something. Try Zicam. It will ease the "itch" and will probably help make whatever you got go away faster. No promises, though.

Mix one teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate with 7 oz of water and make gargles three to five times a day.

Chicken soup (chicken noodle or chicken and rice) will sooth it for a while. You can suck on lemon drops (much cheaper than "cough drops") and or drink a "hot toddy" with lemon and honey (booze optional).

possibly suck on cough drops, use throat spray, and try drinking some hot chocolate or try garggling some hot salty water
