There is no shortage of good free download managers. Personally, I like to use Free Download Manager. It is totally free, no spyware or adware. It has a long list of features, including: downloading multiple links at a time, downloading an entire website, downloading on a schedule, integration with antivirus programs (i.e. it can start the antivirus software installed on your PC to scan the file you just downloaded), resuming download and a great deal of automation. You can download it at: http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/download.htm

Another download manager I like to use is GetRight. Unfortunately, it is a shareware. In the beginning, it will download any file you want. However, after a few downloads, a pop up window will appear ever so often reminding you that the program is a shareware and not free. It encourages you to buy a license. This is not a problem because it still works just fine. It will occasionally bug you but just ignore it. I have use a great number of different download manager but GetRight is in a league of its own. Personally, GetRight is the best download manager I have ever seen. You can download it at: http://www.getright.com/

I see other people have suggested LeechGet and Download Accelerator Plus. These are good choices as well but I have some reservations about them. First, LeechGet adds a lot of entries on to the context menu. You right click a link and the context menu is as long as your arm. The controls are not easy to learn. However, it is totally free of spyware and adware. It works on Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera web browser.

I don't like Download Acelerator Plus (DAP) but it is adware. I just feel that there are enough free download managers that perform just as well as DAP, so why bother with adware.

LeechGet very fast, very free, very open-source. I use it, and I'm familiar with several other ITs that use it on their home computers.
