Balut. It's a Philippine delicacy. It's a fertilized egg that is allowed to grow to be an embryo. You poke a hole into it and suck out the embryo. Some of them have developed to the point where the beak has started to form on the chick inside the egg. They have vendors that stroll through the neighborhoods at night shouting "Balut! Balut!". You run out and buy one. I tried it once when I was there. It was on a dare. I was really, really wasted. Gotta' be pretty drunk to do this. It's really gross. It was a long time ago.

This is a difficult one. I've had octopus, squid, alligator, squirrel, shark, but I think the weirdest, imo, were the chocolate covered grasshoppers and ants.
After reading some responses, I decided to add on. I grew up in the country, so I had rabbit often, and don't consider it unusual. i also have tried ostrich but had forgotten about it. Unfortunately, I also was tricked into trying rattlesnake. I didn't know what it was until later, and will work on blocking it out again!

octopus, squid, rabbit, snake, goat, seaweed, etc.
i tried squid and octopus once and now i love it and occasionally get cravings for it. rabbit we have at thanksgiving and the same with goat but that was back when my uncle raised goats and rabbits for food. tried snake once because my second cousin is a crazy hunter type guy and he brought some home with him one time and cooked it for us. the seaweed was at my friends Japanese themed birthday party. also got addicted to soybeans (aka edomames (sp?)) at her party too.

In Mexico, when I was little I ate a variety of Native foods. My favorite though were the Chocolate covered crickets & grasshoppers. My dad bribed me into eating the "burritos de lengua" or tounge burritos. He tried to get me to eat bull balls but that's where I drew the line!

I've also tried frog's legs!

I became addicted to dragon fruit while I was in Asia.
I also ate pickled walnuts (shells and all) when I was in the UK.
The dragon fruit are soooo good- give the walnuts a miss.
The preserved egg we ate in China was also very different.

Are octopus and squib considered unusual??? Man, you certainly don't live in Greece; we eat them all of the time here! :)) Well, I've eaten deer and goat's brains.
