They wanted to provoke Israel. They knew what Israel would do, and they did it hoping Israel would end up killing a lot of civilians so the world would punish Israel. Plus, while this is going on, the world has been distracted from what the Iranians are doing, and conveniently no one noticed when the deadline passed for them to respond to the international offer.

Because they have done it in the past and here is what they always do.

They offer Israel to give them back if Israel will release LOTS of prisoners in Israel jails. These "prisoners" are Islamic Fundametalist terrorists who are in jail for VERY valid reasons.

However, this time, Israel called their bluff and responded by attacking and vowing to disarm Hezbollah, which is something Lebanon was supposed to do according to a UN resolution.
Lebanon didnt do that.

so they could free the prisoners (they have about 1000 or maybe more Lebanese prisoners) and the lives of 2 Israeli soldiers are not worth a war that has killed 350 Lebanese civilians and 30 Israeli civilians ....

Because they want to keep violence going in the Middle east.

Without violence there will be a peace process that allows both Israel and the Palestinian people to seek redress for their grievances. If both sides settle their differences then there is no place for the Palestinian radicals except in prison.

BECAUSE THEY ARE TERRORIST. They have been doing this kind of thing for a long time, and Israel responded in a more diplomatic way. This time Israel has had enough. I think when a fly, (Hezbollah) buzzes around you long enough, you (Israel) will take out your fly swatter and smack 'em.

Because Israel kidnapped the entire Palestinian Cabinet. We don't hear about that, though.
