You have to understand that the Smithsonian Institution is not a single museum but rather several - including the National Zoo. The National Zoo charges for parking but no admission is charged at any of the Smithsonians.
Some charge extras such as the IMAX movie at the Air & Space Museum downtown or at their annex in Virginia. Basically, it is a wonderful experience with something for everyone and is FREE.

Our tax dollars maintain these national museums, and allow us to visit all the Smithsonian museums, plus so many more, for no admission charge. There is not a better deal to be had!
