I exercise regulary, running 30-35 miles a week, biking 50-60 miles a week, karate/aikido 6 hours a week, plus weights. my diet is impeccable. no processed foods, sugary sodas, caffeine, trans fat, fast food, or salty food. plus lots of fruit and pasta daily. but for some reason my blood pressure is extremely low, around 85/45. this is accompanied by dizziness, or light-headedness. and it cant be with old age because 16 isnt old by any standard. if anyone knows anything

A blood pressure of 85/45 while low, is not that low for a physically fit 16 year old. What is concerning is the blackouts that are associated with it. Are you drinking fluids when you work out? Dehydration will cause a drop in pressure and thus explain your blackouts. Replace electrolytes with sports drinks during your running and biking; you may think that cutting out all salt is good, (and generally it is) but if you run and bike that much you need to replace it. Keep doing what you are doing by eating right and exercising. If the blackouts continue you need to see your doctor, but if you feel healthy don't be too worried about the blood pressure unless it's consistently that low after you have re-hydrated.

Are you under weight or often dehydrated? Neither of those solved my problem, but I fainted all the time as teen: at a dance, after exercise, after giving blood, standing up to fast, but after I got older and gained weight, I stopped fainting around 21-22 years old, and my blood pressure is more normal now, between 95/60 and 105/75. If your doctor is not concerned (mine didn't seem to be), learn when it is coming on and how to deal with it. If I got the slightest bit dizzy or couldn't hear (my hearing and vision would get funny first) I lay on the floor with my feet in air, up against the wall, and drink a belly full of fluid when I was able.

Dizziness and light-headedness are symptoms of extremely low blood pressure. Lack of pressure in the vascular system results in a failure of enough blood to reach your brain, so you black-out so your body can reset itself. This is especially so when certain areas have an increased demand for blood (and oxygen), such as during exercise.

The reasons for low blood pressure are many and varied, but I think your best bet is to see a doctor (or two) to determine the cause for you.

I'm no doctor i have high blood pressure that i have to control with pills and i exercise every day. You should tell this too your parents and let them take u to a doctor to make sure it's only something simple if not he will take care of you. I just read people telling you it could be diabetes its not i have it and if my numbers were like that i would be happy. I hope this helps

You may need salt and water! This may seem too simple to be true - but there is a reason Gatorade puts sodium in their drinks. The sodium helps retain fluid in your vascular system (as opposed to your tissues) thereby maintaining blood pressure.
