After the birth, life and death of Jesus, has God decided to leave us alone? Surely the Bible should have had some additions over the last 2000 or so years. I can't believe that there is nothing to be added. Or is it that people who claim to be in direct contact with God are either ridiculed or marked out as heretics in the modern era?
If Christianity is a living breathing religion, then surely there would be more to say in the Bible today than there was when it was written. I would think this is probably true of all of the world's monotheistic religions.
For the record. I consider myself a Christian who is just trying to understand the nature of my chosen religion.

I would like to thank my fellow Christians for their superiority complexes. Makes me so happy to be associated with them - ironic smile.

If you're Catholic, then you might say the Pope (that is, each Pope in succession) has been a prophet.
For Protestants, however, I'd assume the answer to be no. It was finished, after all, with the death of Jesus. The purpose of prophecy until that point had been to prepare mankind for the coming of our Saviour. He has come, died, risen again and sits in Heaven. As Jesus himself exclaimed on the cross: it is finished.
Chrisitianity is a living religion, and the Bible is the living word of God. Just because nothing is being added or detracted it does not mean that what we have is no longer pertinent or immediately applicable. It is as relevant to us as it was to the Jews and Christians 2000 years ago. It's simply all the information that God decided we need, aside from the Holy Spirit, that is. The Holy Spirit lives in every Christian and guides us. That is perhaps the only "prophet" most Protestants would recognize.
p.s. Mormons believe in modern prophets, and I believe they call the book in which they record these prophets' words the Pearl of Wisdom. But I don't know that Mormons can be considered Christians (and I'm not trying to be inflammatory here). I only mention it because I just remembered that they do have prophets. It started with Joseph Smith and continues to this day...

John The Baptist was the last Prophet of God on Earth. There is no need for another because Jesus The Christ delivered The Last Teaching and appointed 13 Apostles to establish His Church on the earth. The Teachings of Jesus The Christ are all that is needed for the Salvation of any one who comes to God in TheWay He proscribes.
The Church of which Jesus The Christ is The Head is indeed a living and breathing Church. Because it is in the hearts and minds of those of The Faith... It is not is any book or collection of books.
The Bible that is the guide for those of The Faith is a guide for the worship of God. And for a guide to understanding the Teaching of Jesus The Christ... It is only valid for those who are led in their study by The Holy Spirit... God's Word has not changed... though we have lost some of it through the mucking about of men over the centuries... But The Salvation Message is still there and much more... For those of The Faith...That phrase "Living breithing religion" is an example of the thinking of those who do not truly know The Christian Faith.
Those of The Christian Faith do not practice any man invented "religion"
The relationship of God to his people is one-on-one and personal. No man, priest, doctrin or dogma can come between God and His own... Those of The Church of which Jesus The Christ is The head...

First of all, Christ was not a Christian.
You will not find the name "Christian" in any of the Four Gospels and not in the Old Testament. "Christians" is a nickname that was given to the followers of Paul by the worshippers and priest of Zeus in the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 11:26) and Paul and Barnabas were seen as greek Gods in Acts 14:12-13 where Barnabas is actually named Zeus.
Christianity therefore never had a prophet and the closest they ever came to having a prophet was when Emperor Constantine the Great claimed he saw a vision in the sky (the sky of Zeus) of a fiery cross with the words, "By this sign thou shalt conquer", which gave birth to the Cult of the Cross.
Constantine, like Paul and his bright light at midday that spoke to him and claimed to be Jesus, was not sure whether he had a dream or had seen the sun in the sky, while Paul gave three accounts (in the Acts of the Apostles) of the one "vision" or "dream" with witnesses that did not see or hear and could not tell whether they were standing or fallen to the ground.
The Bible is not one book but many books that were arranged by Constantine at the First Council of Nicea in the Fourth Century CE, and the different versions contain different amounts of books by unknown authors, with the four Gospels being the arrangement of many different authors under the names of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
I want to be sure that you did not choose your religion but had your marents choose it for you, or you could not claim to be an intelligent person.
If you wish to gain an idea of what is written in the Bible, I advise that you check The Age Of Reason at Xlibris Corporation.

If "false Christs shall arise" and "many false prophets shall rise and deceive many", then there are many so-called Christian Prophets in sheep's clothing to beware of. Eg: Mt 7:14; 24:11; 24:24; Mk 13:22; 2Pet 2:1; 1Jn 4:1.
Hint: the false ones only arise to "high" places, of high/higher things noted like plural and divided "heavens" on "high", and "heaven" that's "higher than the heavens"... in which things are an "allegory" and "mystery", so allegoric mystery to solve.
Hint: The law [and lie] was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. He taketh away the first, that he might establish the second (only what was added can be taken away). For both law and grace, lie and truth, is an oxymoron. And since law was added, the only plausible mixture is an oxymoron with a bad ending such as life(grace) + death(law).
The "grace'" of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

When there is a real need, there is a real prophet. Many claim to be prophets but the question you need to ask is how many of the things they prophesy really come true. If it is anything less than 100%, they are not a true prophet. There have been some since Jesus but you need to test each one that you even think is a prophet to see what the stats are on the predictions that they made and how many came true. Only 100% really counts as a true prophet. In times that a prophet is not needed, I do not believe He sends one but only in time of need. In the end, I do believe we will see a true prophet come forth but at present I know of none that are alive.

A prophet could be considered someone who brings the written Word of God out. Someone who verifies and does not contradict the already established Holy Scriptures. Prophets are very few and the book of Revelation speaks of two which are to come. They will have the authority to say things like "This you are witnessing today is the fulfillment of that prophecy!" and "Hear the Word of The LORD!" Do not be confused by those who call themselves prophets or who have an "official title" given to them by the elders of their church. If you are a true believer who worships The Living GOD in spirit and in truth, you will know who is and who is not a prophet of God. A prophet who even makes one mistake is to be stoned according to OT law. That principle but not the action is in effect today.

There is nothing to be added. Do you even understand Christianity besides "Believe in Jesus and go to Heaven?" Do you understand the significance of the theological ideas presented in the New Testament? Do you not realize that Jesus was the ultimate meaning of history? You're asking for something more than the ultimate truth and meaning made flesh? I don't think anything God could possibly reveal to you would help you, in that cash.

The New Testament was written loooooong after Christ lived and has been doctored repeatedly to suit whoever was doing the doctoring. I think the whole point of Christs teaching is that faith should be simple. That's why he picked fishermen rather than priests or scholars to carry his message. I personally believe that he came to free us from organised reigion and to make faith a personal relationship with God. He made it easier for us. Keep the 10 commandments . Love God above all else and your neighbour as yourself. I guess once we have all got the hang of that He will send the next guy.
Maybe you should consider Islam. They share your view and believe that Mohammed came to update the Book.

Mother Theresa and many of the Saints were great teachers. Which is of course what a prophet is. Christ was more than a prophet. There are many more all over the world sharing their lives and love with others through their love of Christ. They just do not always make the news.

I wish there were more people like you searching for answers. God left us His Word in the Bible. He (GOD) never changes - He is the same now as He was back when Jesus came. The account of Jesus is all that is needed to ensure your room in heaven - but you have to study and learn what God requires from you.
I have been working on a web site - check it out - but remember you have to do the researching and studying to understand His Word.
